Rather than startup several threads I thought i should put all my questions into one. So, here we go:

1) What do you drink with a cigar? I don't keep any alcohol at home. I'm also not into soda much, as I find it to sweet. I love coffee, but I know caffeine and nicotine don't mix well, and I usually prefer a cold drink. What do you prefer with your cigars?

2) Recommend a good butane lighter, preferably a triple torch style. I've really liked using the cheap ones to light up, but they never last.

3) What kind of cut do you prefer and why?

4) recommend some mild/medium cigars that I should not miss out on.

Thanks guys.

I drink soda, mixed drinks, wine, coffee, water, and or beer with cigars. If I am just wanting to pick up flavors in the cigar it is just water but for a cigar I know and love I I will pair it with a drink that compliments it.

2) Recommend a good butane lighter, preferably a triple torch style. I've really liked using the cheap ones to light up, but they never last.

I use a soft flame xikar lighter. I own 6 or so torches and just dont use them as you can burn the shit out of a stick with them.

3) What kind of cut do you prefer and why?

Depends on the stick, lanceros I punch other than that I use a cut with my palio cutter.

4) recommend some mild/medium cigars that I should not miss out on.

I smoke like 10 different sticks I don't venture out a whole lot ever. My daily go to is Opus so not going to be much help here at all.

I drink any thing from scotch to water. Scotch is my preferred - to me it compliments the flavors. Ice tea is good I drink unsweet as I can't handle the sugar.

I use a single flame xikar so I can't recommend a triple torch. Just never needed one.

Hmm so many smokes... Villager selector, colorado, 1888, NICAROMA habano, Esteban carrera CHUPA CABRA, 5150, cao latraviata , low to mid priced pardron... Could go on and on.

1.) I like whatever is at hand. I drink water quite a bit, but also enjoy coffee, soda, beer, and bourbon with my cigars. Depends on what I'm smoking.

2.) I don't use triple flames, though there are times when they'd come in handy I feel you're more apt to char the crap out of the cigar. I like the Ronson JetLights. Cheap and I've never really had an issue with any that I've used. Xikar has a good reputation though and you couldn't go wrong with one of their lighters.

3.) I usually use my Palio. I had a cheap punch on my key chain for a while (lost is somewhere) that I used at times. To me the Palio is the most versitle. Xikar makes a good cutter too, but I prefer the feel of the Palio.

4.) I'm really fond of the Jaime Garcia New England and My Father Federal Connie. I don't know that I'd classify them as mild, but they're pretty freakin' good and not too strong.

Ok drink, water, ice coffee, Rum,Bourbon, or diet Dr. Pepper

2) Recommend a good butane lighter, preferably a triple torch style. I've really liked using the cheap ones to light up, but they never last.

Ronson lighter works the best for a cheap tourch lighter.

3) What kind of cut do you prefer and why?

Palio, enough said

4) recommend some mild/medium cigars that I should not miss out on.

That is up to you the more you smoke.

Thanks guys.

Hope this helps.

For another relative noobs perspective:

1) I smoke mostly at work so it is usually water or coffee with my cigars, or Dr. Pepper for a few that I think it goes great with

2)I use a xicar single also and have never used a triple

3)I like straight cuts for the most part but use my punch on smaller rg stuff

4)I am sensitive to nicotine but my regulars are(some not necesarily mild/medium) short stories, J. Fuego origin originals, baitfish, 7-20-4 dogwalker, and rascc right now

1) I don't drink alcohol - so I will either drink Cranberry juice, Root Beer (Barq's) or Pepsi.
2) I use a Xicar double flame and I still am partial to Zippos with the Z Plus butane inserts.
3) Straight cuts with a good blade cutter. I will use the plastic cheapy blade cutters in a pinch - not a fan of the punch it doesn't cut enough of the cigar to get a good draw many times.
4) I am partial to medium to full bodied - so I can't be of any help.

1) Honestly for me anything i like. Don't waste too much time debating the drink just make sure its something you'll enjoy!
2) I have a triple flame at home but my go too (if its not too windy) is a Xikar Pipline Soft Flame lighter. My triple flame is the JetLine "New York" Triple flame. It's incredibly trustworthy and has a handy mirror on the top that allows you to see that cherry get rolling! also retail for around $20 so not a huge investment if doesn't turn out to be your favorite
3) i love a punch on anything with a round cap. I have 3 sizes of punch along with a pair of Xikar MTX scissors for anything tapered. After using scissors i just simply couldn't go back
4) sounds like your in the same rang i am! I would recommend anything from the Arturo Fuente Hemingway Line (especially short story), PDR A. Flores Capa Habano, Aging Room M356 & Ashton 8-9-8 are my GO TO's in the light, medium world

Hope that helps some!

1) What do you drink with a cigar?
If it's something i've never had before i stick with water so i can make honest opinion of the stick. other than that whatever im in the mood for.

2) Recommend a good butane lighter, preferably a triple torch style.
Xikar single flame. Don't recomend a triple torch unless your outside in a wind storm. I always scortch the tobacco using a triple flame

3) What kind of cut do you prefer and why?
Depends on the stick, in general 44 and smaller i punch cause easier and you'll get large enough of an opening to avoid tar build up
46-52 straight cut palio give you the best draw casue punch is usually too small
54 and larger and torps i use a V-cutter cause usually too big for the palio to handle nicely and takes guesswork out of how much of the torp to cut.

4) recommend some mild/medium cigars that I should not miss out on.
Everyone's taste is different but strongly reccomend
Perdomo Champagne
AF Hemingway series

2. Ronson Jetlite.
3. Straight cut with my SAK.
4. Fuente 858's or Padron thousand line. Just throwing that out there.

Wow, less than 24 hours and already getting tons of help from the brothers here. Thanks guys. To keep things simple I'll keep my follow up in the same format.
1) I think I'll try to stick to water for a while, so that I may better taste the cigars. Although, I do like the suggestions of cranberry juice and iced tea.
2) I'm still looking, but it looks like Xikar is a favorable brand.
3) I have always used a straight cut and liked it, maybe I'll try a punch on a smaller ring gauge. But, for the most part doesn't sound like I'm missing anything by sticking to a straight cut.
4) Keep these coming. I'm keeping a small of list of those that are highly recommended. I'm really looking forward to trying a Perdomo Champagne, and I'll have to find an AF Hemingway.
Anyway, keep the posts coming. I'm really enjoying this forum.

I usually drink water or diet coke. I try not to mesh with the cigar flavor.

Pickup a Xikar triple flame table top. Lifetime warranty, great looking and high quality. Worth the price, but check cigar auction sites first.

3) What kind of cut do you prefer and why?

I prefer the V cut for most of my smokes, that way I don't cut too far down with a straight cut.

4) recommend some mild/medium cigars that I should not miss out on.

I could recommend a couple, usually connecticut wrapper are lighter and mild bodied, try the Nub connecticut. Also for a more medium body, try La Duena or Flor de Las Antillas. Solid smokes.
Sorry if any duplicates from other brothers, but great minds think alike. :) Welcome to the slope!

1) What do you drink with a cigar? Try a decaf, iced latte or mocha. Coffee goes so well with cigars, and I drink a lot of decaf with my evening smokes. Add a little cream, a little syrup, and you have a delightful combination.

2) Recommend a good butane lighter, preferably a triple torch style. The one I use at home is a tabletop Xikar lighter, gifted to me. It's a "soft-flame" torch, and is amazing. Generally though, I carry a single-flame Ronson. It's $4, always works, and if it gets lost, no big deal.

What you light with isn't as important is how you light. The goal is to slowly toast the foot until it glows, not to get it going as quickly as possible. Don't let the foot touch the flame, and rotate things so that the entire foot gets toasted evenly.

3) What kind of cut do you prefer and why? Straight cut. Punch seems to concentrate the draw in a way I find undesirable, and the v-cut just has a strange mouth-feel. In almost every cigar I've ever smoked, I've preferred a straight cut.

4) recommend some mild/medium cigars that I should not miss out on. Geez, now this is such a broad question, it's hard to answer! Give us an idea of what you've already smoked and liked. When you say mild-medium, are you referring to flavor, complexity, or nicotine kick? Do you like the darker flavors or lighter flavors? What flavors are you enjoying and looking for? Answer those questions and the recommendations will be much more likely to suit ya.

If I'm not in the mood for alcohol, it's Coke Zero with a lot of ice. My preference in most cases is a really good rum mixed with a little Coke Zero for a bit of sweet, or an "adult" coffee with I make at home. Super strong roast brewed, then add whole milk, lots of ice and a couple shots of Kahlua.

2) Recommend a good butane lighter, preferably a triple torch style. I've really liked using the cheap ones to light up, but they never last.

I bought a cheap triple torch at my local B&M. It has a flip top and is bright red lol. It is refillable and works very well.

3) What kind of cut do you prefer and why?

So far, only a Guillotine.

4) recommend some mild/medium cigars that I should not miss out on.

CAO L'Anniversaire Cameroon and Macanudo Cru Royale (the lastest issue if Cigar Afic. gave the Gigante a 92 rating).

Thanks guys.
I've only been at this since May, so I'm a newb, too, so take all that for what it's worth.

If I can make a suggestion, go to StogieRate.com and start keeping track of what you smoke. It's really useful and lets you make notes, and earmark the ones you like. It's free online. I just filled up my first humidor with about 7 different smokes I really enjoyed after the first 35 or so I've tried.

So, I went ahead a bought a Jetline Super Torch. Nothing fancy, but if it works and lasts, then I'll be happy. Still enjoying the cigar recommendations.
