I get spammed constantly by Thompson and rarely act on their specials. However Sunday they sent me a 10% off, $.99 shipping and a free torch lighter & cutter deal if I ordered 5 singles. Well I thought I actually need a lighter and you Yahoos have been touting a bunch of brands I wanna try to see if you are insane or if the sticks are really good without being saddled with a 5 pack if I end up not liking them. I placed my order for 5-singles and then yesterday they sent me a note saying 2 of the 5 are out of stock and their cigar "EXPERTS" recommend the following replacement sticks. I thought, forget it I'll just pass on this deal. To their credit they sent me the lighter and the cutter with only a 3-stick order. Gotta commend them for processing the order even though they lost money on that deal.

Thompson can be a bit of a bully pushing their deals and such. I told the lady today I like cigars I'll buy when I'm ready no need to be pushy my only complaint this far.

"Eating and sleeping are the only activities that should be allowed to interrupt a man's enjoyment of his cigar."

my limited experience was so bad with Thompson's that I won't use them any more. The worst was I received a shipment from them that full of cigar beetles and holes that they refused to replace or refund. You can say what you want about JR or Holt's but they know their current stock or when they will be available.

it would be nice if Amazon started selling cigars - they know they exact number of each item they have in stock up to the minute.
I just received a Liga Privada #9 Belicoso from Thompson's. In cellophane that was opened, inside a plastic tubo that was open. Damaged cap and wrapper about a 1/2" down from the cap. I put it in my humidor to settle, and I'm trying to decide how I can cut the head of this cigar without completely destroying the wrapper. SMDH...

Sad. It looks like now that Pipes and Cigars is under CI ownership, they'll be pulling the same stuff CI and Cbid have been pulling for years.

As far as Thompson goes, don't give in to them. A couple summer's ago, I won a pile of PAM64 Robs for $6.40 a stick. They kept sending me notices that the cigars where back ordered. Then came the phone calls trying to get me to sub something else. I continued to tell them that I'd be willing to wait, and ship my cigars when they are back in stock. It took a couple months, but I finally got them, and at that price, it was well worth the wait.

If the Thompson order was an auction win, it is a contract, and they are obligated to fulfill their end of the contract. Don't let them talk you into letting them off the hook.

Over the years, I've won hundreds of really good cigars from Thompson at rock bottom prices. Except for the PAM64 delay, all my wins where delivered on time, and in perfect condition. Looks like others haven't been so lucky.

DE has been garnering tons of attention and because of this attention ( which begets more attention ) pricing continues to move up. I've smoked quite a few of their lines and while some are pretty good it doesn't mirror the increase of worth. Now, having said this it isn't to push a debate as to tastes but rather for everybody to understand the marketing/advertising mindset for any product and when there is sufficient buzz about product people tend to clamor for it so they can be part of the buzz. This isn't my opinion but rather it's what Focus Studies tend to bring out and when you sell a product the best way to create and continue that buzz is to artificially keep that product in short supply. DE is a master of this approach having learned this from earlier pioneers of the cigar sales approach. Conversely there are those who flood the market with so many cigars that it gives the consumers the idea that more is better and since we know who "they" are who do this it's because they have proved their ability years ago to corner the market with good product and now are able to put so much on the shelves that it tends to be overcrowding when we visit the B&M's. Like Coke and Pepsi who come out with more lines they are able to gobble up more shelf space in the stores which tends to keep other brands from gaining a fair share.

Marketing/Advertising is a psychology based approach at selling product sometimes regardless of taste...i.e. McDonalds or Burger King...nobody in their right mind is going to say that they make the best burgers because they have saturated the market...so when you feel like having a burger the saturation point of commercials, billboards, etc. tell you to "have it your way" or having Ronald McDonald running through the backroads of your mind.

I wish DE would cater to their consumer base and just make cigars affordable instead of playing the numbers game....at some point they will overestimate their market share of how much they charge and they are very close to doing that. Once a company has artificially increased the net worth of their product consumers remember it...sometimes with a vengeance.

OK... Here's the replacement LP#9. I'm wondering how the band ended up on the foot. I've never seen that happen. Something ain't right...

Wow, that is new to me.
Im glad they sent you a new cigar. Is the band loose (as in, can you slide it back and forth)?
