They get noticeably better with years of downtime. Bury it & try to forget about it. I like them fresh too, but they're magical when aged.

I like them young and old. Only you can figure out what you prefer.

Looks like I gotta buy 2 of each size. Smoke one fresh and then let the others rest.

Ill be needing to budget in a bigger humi now haha.

Edit:

Also do you age them with the cello and cedar sleeve?

Mmmm...Bacon

Nice choice on the 46, they're really good. Go buy more if you can get them at msrp, you won't regret it. Try to save a few to rest until next year.

If you've not had one just smoke it. If you enjoy it get some more. Smoke one a year til you run out. Then you'll know how you like them. I'm not patient enough to age them long...though I have been sitting on some sharks for a while now...dang it, now I have to forget that I have those...quick!

IMO the #46 is the best Anejo. I'll smoke them fresh but typically I'll age them for about 5yrs. Some of my oldest Anejo's are turning 11 yrs. old right now.

let's be honest here, if you have NEVER had an anejo, burn it soon! there is little point to me to buy and age something i don't love, and won't continue to love over time. and yes, that implies that there are people who don't like anejos. i think they are f#@king high, but i respect their opinion. o)

and the thing that makes me love anejo more than opus, is that both are amazing with age, but the anejo are still fan-frickin-tastic right off the truck. they don't NEED the down time like opi do.

I actually prefer them fresh. They are a fantastic smoke. The only one I love as much as the Anejo is the Don Carlos. That is a whole other thread though but yeah smoke that baby!

I'm a huge fan of the anejo. But I'm just the opposite. I love them aged even more than what they already are. Don't get me wrong they are great "fresh" but i smoked one that was from 2008 and it was by far the best anejo I've ever had.

I recently bought a box of 2012 Sharks because of the lore surrounding them and now that I have had the benefit of burning a couple, I wish I had spent the coin on the 46's. The Sharks are a good smoke and I'm sure over time they will get better and better, but it just confirms that I truly am a small RG guy. The 46 & 48 are my Anejos of choice, hands down. I am also a big fan of the Opus Perfection No. 5, but that is OT.
