was the email confirming your scheduled pick-up or that the packages were actually picked up? Only thing I can think of is that your carrier passed by your house before you put the packages on the bench but if that was the case you should of received an email saying packages weren't found. Oh and if you want a refund your going to have to go through the website they won't be able to refund your money at the counter.
Thanks for the info...Here are the answers to your questions: I received an email immediately after scheduling the pick up, confirming that I had scheduled it successfully. On Saturday afternoon, I received another email confirming that the pick up had been "successfully completed" ...HA!

The packages were left on the bench early Saturday morning, because I had to work...They were out there at approximately 8:00AM, way before the carrier would have arrived.

So this morning, I took my packages, my confirmation of pick up email, and my tempered attitude to the local USPS counter. I very politely asked for USPS to either ship overnight at no cost, or to refund my money since I had clearly paid for services that were not provided.
The guy at the counter said that I was paying for the delivery services, and not the pick up. The pick up was an extra convenience that USPS provided. I said that since the pick up was not completed, my packages are now late, so I did NOT in fact receive the services I had paid for. He said I would need to speak to a supervisor who would not be there until 10:00, and gave me a phone # to call. I thanked him and told him that I know it's not his fault, and left him with the packages and will call the number later to hopefully get my $$$ refunded.

So today I didn't feel like walking out to my mailbox to ship a package so I scheduled a SFR to be picked up from my porch. She got upset with me for not putting it in the mailbox. So do you see that as being inconsiderate of me or just her being lazy?

She's paid to do a job so I'd say it's on her. If I'm at work, and a customer has ordered a specific thing, I can't just tell them that they're getting a different product bc I'm lazy. I always try to put my packages in the mailbox but sometimes it can't be done.

I'm with you on this. That's her job and your right to be lazy.

Hosh, you do have the right to be lazy. But if she is used to a normal pickup from the mailbox, I could see how she would become ornery.
My thought would be that the porch pick up would be for disabled folks. You don't have any crutches laying around?

Lmao! I never thought about it being for disabled folks... I would feel like a dick if it really was. Haha! It just asks on the site where you want it picked up from and gives various locations.

Here is my take on the complaint about the Postal Service. I worked for the Postal Service for 8 years the last 4 as a Carrier. You have to remember they are in the office for 2 to 3 hours sorting the mail. While in the office they have the stress of the supervisor jumping their ass to hurry up. They then load the vehicle to hit the street. Then they have to face hundreds of customers during the day. So when you see one carrier they see hundreds of customer with most of them complaining. Not making any excuses it is a stressful job that people do not understand. So Hoshy if you can walk help your carrier out and walk to the mailbox. LOL

Yeah, I do for the most part but other days when it's cold I don't feel like crawling out. Maybe I will just use more medium flat rates that won't fit in the mail box. I can't complain she does a great job here. ;)

What a joke, a US postal service mail carrier bitching to a customer for something that the USPS allows!?! Serious? Can she be upset, sure. Should she chastise the customer, F no. Complain to your coworkers if you want. If you don't like that your employer offers porch pick up service, complain to your supervisor... not the customer. Many people in the service industries have stressful jobs, they sure as hell better not take it out on customers.

We use to have on our paychecks at a retail job I worked at. "From our Guests" in back round ink all over the check stub. I hated it but it is so true.

Yeah, I thought it was kinda shitty. I will be nice though and when it's convenient I will put it in the mail box. If she says something again though I will be making a phone call.

Talk about a USPS f*ck up!

My wife's financial aid check is over a week late. It was mailed last Friday and hasn't showed up as of today. Just to make things a bit more clear, her school is around 30 miles away from our house. Yesterday I called the post office and asked for the head monkey on duty I asked him if a check was send from Fairfield, CT. to our house in Seymour, CT how many stops does this said letter make. he said 3-4 stops. This letter goes all the way to New Jersey then goes all the way to Hartford, CT before making a third stop then finally showing up here. This letter does over a 200 mile trip before it reaches me.

So I said basically its faster to walk a letter from her school to our house and then to the bank right? So thus far our check is still lost in the mail. We have no money for anything until it shows up or I get paid on Friday. It a shitty thing and Neither the school nor the post office give two shits about the problem. Thank you USPS! All the crap mail in the world makes it to my door, but a really important check is the one thing that these monkey f*cks have to loose.

Yes I am one of those carriers and let me just say you have the right to be angry and yes the system sucks. The people to blame are the damn bean counters and efficiency experts who in their infinite wisdom that the 200 mi round trip was more cost effective and let the carriers and clerks deal with the fallout. You had the great misfortune of having the check sent same time companies send out W2. when your processing and delivering 200 - 300 million letters a day some are bound to slip through the cracks. this is why i wished both school and the US govt sent checks certified be a lot less headaches for me. Oh and yes sometimes even my mail/packages get lost and/or misdelivered.

I had both a screw up and a huge kudos to USPS in the same day yesterday. I have a package en-route with precious cargo (see the CC purchases thread in another day or two). Someone in USPS read the zip code wrong and sent it to the wrong post office, which then marked it undeliverable. When I looked it up in tracking it said it was being sent back to the sender (overseas) because it couldn't be delivered as addressed.

I called up my local post office, and a woman did a bunch of digging for me, only to find out it had been sent to the correct post office (mine/the one she worked at) and was already out for delivery. Even though USPS had already fixed my problem, unbeknownst to me, she did a bunch of work to investigate and was unfailingly polite the whole time.

The system is pretty crappy, but there are definitely some good folks keeping it running.
