Annoying B&M owner

I travel all over and there have been several shops that require clueless employees to watch over your shoulder. It used to really annoy me but after asking a few of them I learned that it was simply store policy, no exceptions. I don't take it personal but I have asked a few of them if they considered how it made customers feel when they are being hawked. Most again just respond with store policy. Now I just smile as it makes me appreciate the great shops that I get to visit, some which recognize me when I only go there 2-3 times per year AND remember my favorite sticks and tastes.

I prefer shops with video cameras instead of this, but understand that's just an added expense.

In the end, it's your call. I personally think that the curiosity is killing you so you should ask.

Can't fault a B&M for protecting product. The difference is learning to embrace the regulars regardless of age or appearance. I don't think you need to make an issue of it, there have been a lot of good suggestions of how to properly deal with your situation.

I got lucky finding my local B&M that I now frequent. I am a trusted guy there and have been there maybe 6 times. The guy behind the counter is extremely knowledgeable and takes pride in his skillset. He is able to recommend great smokes for people and he loves learning what people like.

my fave is that way too.it makes going there a pleasure instead of going "oh god i gotta go in here and deal with these people"

Yeah, I used to get watched in the beginning I recall. Now I am trusted and left alone. I grab something walk hold it up in air as I pass by no words exchanged. He remembers it and goes on tab until I leave and pay. It's great.
