Gaslight in my new pipe. Thanks to all the BOTL that made it happen. ;)
How'd you like the gaslight? I really like it, I expected more in your face Latakia flavor but was surprised in a good way how "not in your face" it was.

Sexy looking 320 dude, so glad this all came together!
It's definitely great, I am going to let it dry a little longer though. I am very happy with the pipe. Its beautiful...

Good thing she wasn't from 8th Avenue
Foooook that pipe business it's not for me maybe I'll try it again someday.
I'd hate to see you judge your pipe experience on an aromatic tobacco. Like cigars there are so many different tobaccos to try and find what you like.
While DE makes great cigars, I think their infancy in pipe tobacco shows in their current blends. Many of their aromatics haven't gotten rave reviews. I will say I think meat pie is a solid English. I think people that like their cigars expect their pipe tobacco to be as good or better as their sticks and it's just not the case, yet.
Try some more blends and keep at it!

Thanks I just got discouraged I'll give it a try again I just hate having to relight it every 5 seconds and I feel that the drew estate tobaccos are to moist myself as I would get upset if I had to lite my cigar every time I put it down this is my first pipe so maybe I'm doing something wrong. any suggestions on a good tobacco to try brother?

try their meat pie for an english, or dunhill nightcap. for a very user friendly virginia, orlik golden sliced. for a VaPer, escudo or dunhill deluxe navy rolls. that's just off the top of my head.

and, yes, crap like THIS is why it took me a decade to "get" pipes, when i finally figured out that the tobacco doesn't have to be wet and sweetened. i am going back and learning cavendish, but there are so many unflavored, tobacco-forward blends out there. we are cigar guys here, and finding something that actually represents "the leaf" is, in my mind, a better start for us.

once again, just me. good luck when you decide to retry. o)

A far as the relights, they happen. Worry less about the technical aspects and focus on the tobacco, after all that is what this is all about! I watched a lot of YouTube videos on pipe smoking and those helped me a ton on packing and lighting.
As far as tobacco I would suggest going to your B&M and getting a sample of an English/vaper/Virginia/Balkan blend/oriental blend and smoke your way thru and find what suits your taste. Just grab a few ounces at a time.

A little dunhill 965 from Utah which was pretty good

I'll give the de another try but doubtful they will be keepers, the meat pie is the only one I've really liked though addmittingly aros are not my thing

finishing off some LBF in my Glenderry. This birthday week has not gone well at all...walked out to diesel fuel on the ground this morning. Friday brings just one more year to my age and further away from my college days that ended just this past august. damn.

I'm sitting on my back porch tonight and I just fired up my first bowl of Penzance in my Savinelli 320. Man this stuff is good. No wonder the hype. Definitely worthy of a special smoke.

I'm reflecting about tomorrow and figured that tonight was as good as any to fire up this special smoke. Tomorrow marks my father's 79th birthday. We live about 900 miles apart so I won't be seeing him tomorrow. Tomorrow also marks my 45th birthday. I tend to get a little sentimental these past few years as we were able to celebrate our special bond together for the first 25 years or so. Even though we don't get to spend as much time together these days, I'm grateful to have him around and in relatively good health as I know that someday, hopefully in the distant future, that he won't be.

Here's to my dad! I love you man!

Burned some Samovar in my 320 series III. Wanted some pirate kake, but samovar was in top and easy to grab. Quickly packed it before heading out for work today. Nice bowl, but now that I've hit seriously latakia heavy blends like PK, samovar left me wanting......
