How'd you like the gaslight? I really like it, I expected more in your face Latakia flavor but was surprised in a good way how "not in your face" it was.Gaslight in my new pipe. Thanks to all the BOTL that made it happen.
It's definitely great, I am going to let it dry a little longer though. I am very happy with the pipe. Its beautiful...Sexy looking 320 dude, so glad this all came together!Gaslight in my new pipe. Thanks to all the BOTL that made it happen.
Thanks. I think I will pick some upglad you think so! I have some aged tobacco in my cellar that i try not to touch and to be honest with you...the 5100 beat my OGS from '105100 is good "fresh" and good with age on it.
I'd hate to see you judge your pipe experience on an aromatic tobacco. Like cigars there are so many different tobaccos to try and find what you like.View attachment 40574
Good thing she wasn't from 8th Avenue
Foooook that pipe business it's not for me maybe I'll try it again someday.
Thanks I just got discouraged I'll give it a try again I just hate having to relight it every 5 seconds and I feel that the drew estate tobaccos are to moist myself as I would get upset if I had to lite my cigar every time I put it down this is my first pipe so maybe I'm doing something wrong. any suggestions on a good tobacco to try brother?I'd hate to see you judge your pipe experience on an aromatic tobacco. While DE makes great cigars, I think their infancy in pipe tobacco shows in their current blends. Many of their aromatics haven't gotten rave reviews. I will say I think meat pie is a solid English. I think people that like their cigars expect their pipe tobacco to be as good or better as their sticks and it's just not the case, yet.
Try some more blends and keep at it!
try their meat pie for an english, or dunhill nightcap. for a very user friendly virginia, orlik golden sliced. for a VaPer, escudo or dunhill deluxe navy rolls. that's just off the top of my head.
and, yes, crap like THIS is why it took me a decade to "get" pipes, when i finally figured out that the tobacco doesn't have to be wet and sweetened. i am going back and learning cavendish, but there are so many unflavored, tobacco-forward blends out there. we are cigar guys here, and finding something that actually represents "the leaf" is, in my mind, a better start for us.
once again, just me. good luck when you decide to retry. o)
Thanks guys sorry to derail the thread with my whining. I won't give up yet.A far as the relights, they happen. Worry less about the technical aspects and focus on the tobacco, after all that is what this is all about! I watched a lot of YouTube videos on pipe smoking and those helped me a ton on packing and lighting.
As far as tobacco I would suggest going to your B&M and getting a sample of an English/vaper/Virginia/Balkan blend/oriental blend and smoke your way thru and find what suits your taste. Just grab a few ounces at a time.
