It affects me a lot.

I don't get to smoke but a few times a month so I really look forward to a good cigar during those times.

What a let down when I get a crappy cigar.

Never let a crappy cigar ruin your mood. I don't smoke for the cigar, in and of itself, I smoke for the experience. I'm okay with smoking a crappy cigar as long as the experience was good.

My best friends parents brought back from Mexico 5 Cubans in a glass topped box. I sat with them, and my buddy, while I smoked a "Cuban" and enjoyed every minute. Thankfully, the cigars weren't rolled carpet, but, they were bad, hell, very bad. But the experience was awesome!!!

I normally carry a few cigars with me when I am going to smoke. If I have one that I don't like I will toss it. I keep a few known good in the box at all times and Normally 2 of my favorites so if a friend says hey I got you this to try and its not good I can toss it and pass them one of something I know is good to me.

I have found that when you are in a foul mood even a great cigar isn't as good as it could be. The opposite is also true I have had cigars I would consider dog rockets that are not as bad when you are with friends and enjoying a good day.

my 2 cents

Most generally, I don't get a good experience with a crappy cigar.

Life is too short to smoke bad cigars and it's even shorter to get worked up over something like smoking a bad cigar. Pitch it, grab a different one and enjoy.
I agree, in principle. However, sometimes if you have a lot invested in that cigar (time/place/money/memory) it can be very disappointing if it fails. For example, I have boxes of cigars set aside to smoke once a year on my kids' birthdays. I'll be kinda bummed if they suck (I doubt they will, but anyway...). Or if I light up one of the very few expensive or vintage sticks I've been saving for a special occasion; I'll be really bummed if I spent $50 on a plugged stick or a windtunnel or something that turns out wasn't taken care of.

That being said, as long as I have another one to smoke, and it's good.... I'm ok! When I really get bummed is when I go to smoke one at just that right time - on a walk, or on a beach, or when you're on vacation and you happen across that perfect spot - and you go to light up and the cigar is plugged, or falls apart, or is bitter or something. Those are the times when it can affect my mood.

I've been disappointed in plenty of cigars and even more so when its a construction issue on an expensive stick. However, I always remind myself that it is a handmade product and as such mistakes do happen. The only time I get really annoyed about it is if I run into a situation where I go somewhere and the only stick I've brought blows.

I will say that I just light up a Uf-13 and it was plugged and it pisses me off. I only smoke once a week so I just chucked it after 10 minutes and light another cigar. Life is too short to struggle with a poorly made cigar. I am less upset if I try a new cigar and just don't like the taste, but it performed well. I am more upset when it is one of my favorites and it underperformed like the Uf-13. It is especially sucky when the cigar is expensive. Since I would rather smoke 1 good cigar a week than 5 mediocre ones, I hope this doesn't happen too often.

Thanks for all contributions.

@Master Shake, glad to read that you are empathetic with the cigar. I believe when we try to justify or understand the defects we find in a cigar - while still describing that cigar for what it is - well when we do all this, it's an indicator we feel passion for cigars. Do you agree?
