I received this box last week from a large website. (I'm not going to call them out as I want to let them make it right)

Just another reason to freeze or at least segregate new stock.

Yep those are beetles (dead thankfully)

18 feb 14 box code.

Check your shipments Damnit. Very glad this didn't make it into my humi.

Dude, that sucks! hope they make it right!

I thought MF froze everything before they send it out.
I thought they did too. these were definitely not frozen at mf.

edit to add: I opened box and removed cigars pre freezing. The beetles likely hatched in transit to me, maybe, as there were no beetles laying in the box on first inspection. I replaced the gars and put them in a freezer bag on my desk. next morning into the freezer. Upon removing from the freezer that is what I found

Okay, I hate to use your pain as my education.

But, is it possible that they were frozen prior to shipping? That the reason you found three deaduns is because of the freezing? With regards to the rest of the smokes, would it be advisable to freeze them yourself or will those be put into your humi?

Again, this is education for me, and I am sorry that this has happened, but thanks for helping me understand the plight of the poor tobacco beetle.

I won't be keeping any of them. The rest are likely fine, but there is the chance they have beetles inside that never emerged. (they taste very bad). I am confident the company who sold them to me will either refund me or replace the box.

Thanks. Again, I am sorry about your pain, but do appreciate the knowledge. I do have to ask two more questions. Seeing as the box was sealed from the factory, what is the likelihood that said beetle(s) hitched a ride after the factory? Wouldn't a sealed box be impossible to penetrate?

Probably not impossible, but highly unlikely, beetles are a fact of life with cigars. You just have to watch yourself.

My understanding is that sticks are boxed up sealed and then frozen before shipment. My GUESS is that these hatched after boxing and then were killed by freezing.

This is good proof that they can and will eat through cello for those that think cello protects cigars from bugs!

That is what I thought too. I was under the impression that Cellophane would create a natural barrier in case of Beetles and leave cigars in better secure situation than without. This right there is proof of the inability for cellophane to prevent beetle infestation.

So what do you do with them? Chuck them in the garbage? You should dissect a few... If no more beetles found, smoke what's left!

I'm sure the shop will want them shipped back.
