Deep dark, oily wrapper with closed foot and piggy tail. nice looking smoke.
I havent smoked since NYE due to cold/throat so im hoping a) my palate is fresh and b) i dont irritate my throat since im heading to Vegas and CF tomorrow!
pre light smells faint, almost nothing? must be just me
cold draw is effortless and faint taste of chocolate
set a triple torch to the closed foot and she is ablaze! party time(excellent)
first impression is much more medium than anticipated. i expected a peppery tat blast when i saw the closed foot but instead it is balanced and creamy with a leathery richness, light pepper only. pleasant beginnings! Im going to go Daves route and puff for a bit before i report much back as i feel i tend to really front load reviews.
I will type a bit about life here since im going to enjoy a good ten minutes before updating the review. I mentioned to some other brothers in chat the other night that i got some great news last week. i did! The wife and i will have my 6 year old niece living with us for at least the next six months. Her mom and dad arent what you would call responsible. both young, dumb, and immature. Nonetheless, we have been taking my niece since she was about 6 months old to our place andbefore that my wife was taking care of her daily at her dad's while the mom finished HIGH SCHOOL!!! Used to get her every weekend like clockwork. At times we wouldnt be "allowed" to see her for chunks of time if the mom and dad were fighting(no longer together) and we have also had her as long as 6 weeks at a time. It has been a stressful 6 years of worrying and wondering as mom moved from guys place to guys place along the journey and i would pick her up from a new place constantly and when we would drop her back off she would cry frantically as we left, and for hours after we left we were told. heartbreaking times that have caused many tears and a lot of angst but we have done really well to never show and aggression or hatred towards the mom for fear she would keep her from us. Very political, yet very difficult. A true test of patience and humility...and a lot of serenity prayers, amongst others.
So this stick has eased nicely into the first third. VEry rich and creamy with light spice, a sweet cocoa-ish flavor and a very smooth retro which i enjoy. Burning nicely and smoke production is extreme as expected based on the oily wrapper. draw is very easy which is my preference. i hate tugging!
So to go on a bout my niece since it has been dominating my thoughts lately for obvious reasons! This little girl is one of the loves of my life. I really fell in love with her as we helped raise her. Wasnt just the sad situation or anythign but rather the bond i built with her over the years. She has always loved me as much as i love her and her dad has been jealous of this for quite awhile now. Not that hes done much to combat it by spending the time with her that i have, but rather just sits and stews, makes comments here and there, but goes on being a douche(my bro inlaw). I guess what i found in raising her was my true purpose and a want to be a dad myself. not only that, but i wanted a girl first so bad i would have been disappointed in the ultrasound if i heard different. i didnt, and i jumped and clapped for joy like a lunatic to where the lady gave me a strange look. But i was so excited when i found out my daughter was coming i couldnt handle it. a truly great life moment that only comes along so often.
Stick remaining consistent with a sweet cocoa, syrupy flavor that is very enjoyable. Im saying this is NC right now and im enjoying it which is good because ive been on a CC craze lately making some NCs less enjoyable. I guess its just a palate change going on which isnt bad, but been enjoying more medium than i have full lately. Finding myself much more flavor oriented since doing some reviews and expanding the palate whereas i used to like flavors in blast of strength more.
So a little more about my niece and ill shut up. the last couple years her mom has been with the same guy. seemed like a decent dude for awhile. was good to my niece which was nice. had a job and house which was great. BY FAR the best living arrangement she had since being born other than when with us. wasnt really worried when she was there. then they had another kid. he started to get a bit stricter with my niece. whatever, wasnt too concerning...until he kicked them out recently calling the mom and my niece BOTH sluts in the process...JESUS man!!! SHES 6!!! Oh, and the mom is pregnant again by him(we think by him). So in light of her having no place to live followed by totaling her car and not having any money we were asked if we could take her until school lets out in May/June. I have a feeling this will be longer and im hoping that it does. The best case scenario IMO is mom gets her shit together and takes her back ready to provide a good upbringing. i have little hope in that so option number two is what i think the best outcome will be and thats we get her long term to raise her like a lady and have the mom visit from time to time or whenever she wants which most likely wont be often since in 6 years of taking her the mom has only ever called while weve had her about a dozen times(prob less). I feel like God(however we all understand him) has a plan for all of this and all im doing is what ive been doing for years, being prepared to accept whatever comes my way. Not always easy, but seems like the best option. We are here, we have her, she is happy, and it feels right. Pray for us guys, pray for my niece. whatever is to be will and i just want my little angel to be happy
Thanks for listening to my ramble as i just needed to write about it a bit and get it out. Wife is getting her enrolled in school tomorrow and i cant believe it is all actually happening!!!
1st third comes to close very consistent. the sweet cocoa/syrup remained throughout and was nice. a little cream and slight leather worked its way in here and there but the sweetness dominated. almost want to throw cinnamon on there but it came late and might be sign of second third coming to life.
Also, as result of these life changes in the past week i am even further behind in getting some packages out and will be unable to do so until next weekend since im traveling for work this week. i have 6 or 7 MAWs, BIFs, and Newbie trades packed up. just need post office time. Sorry for delay, i hope they are all well received as i did have a lot of fun putting them together....especially

2nd third opens nicely after a minor touch up. draw still easy, burn going pretty well. cinnamon spice is popping a bit more. smoke is thick and chewy, smoke production remains Liga-ish. Purging regularly for fear of the oil turning to a tar build up, but nothing yet.
2nd third continues with more similar flavors, if not a little less sweet. almost a herbal taste coming in but barely. Tasty, but medium minus which doesn't bother me at all. slight pepper in the background, woodsy finish with creamy/bread like flavor. interesting. I have no idea what this stick is at this point other than NC unless its a custom roll, but lacks the CC flavors ive been getting accustomed to.
2nd third closes with a nice medium vibe. enjoyable. feeling a bit of the nicotine from not smoking for 5 days which is a nice feeling
Last third starts with a slight spice coming back in. the sweetness is suddenly gone, but the creaminess is rich and pleasant. VERY subtle on the retro which is slightly disappointing as im a retro fiend. finding more flavor on my tongue rather than my nostrils which is not usually the case. perhaps the head cold has some after effects or maybe the cigar is just not that strong. i will say having 5 days off was a good thing. my palate needed some time off. was feeling pretty banged up from the last stretch.
This stick is closing pretty much as described. Good, not great. Not a lot of wow from the build up. Almost as if i smoked it backwards with it toning it down throughout. a light spice in play with a minor sweetness popping back in.
Ill say overall and 89, nice stick but lacked a wow factor or something to distinguish itself from its competition.
For a guess ill go with something Rodrigo. im not sure about the closed foot other than i am pretty sure its not Tatuaje. and the pigtail with this dark wrapper resembles something Rodrigo i got in the coooler form someone in different size. Complete guess since i have only smoked one Rodrigo and it was awhile ago.
