I too keep a journal, but mine is mostly for inventory purposes. I bought a blank journal at Staples and make an entry for every purchase. Pretty standard stuff: date, manufacturer vitola, size, origin, retailer, quantity. I try to log everything I can find on the wrapper, binder, and filler in an attempt to clarify for myself what I like and to become more familiar with some of the more exotic blends. I find that this helps me to decide what I'm going to smoke today, much like perusing a restaurant menu. Also, I often see some cigar I've forgotten about and go, "Oh, yeah I should try that." I don't really keep any notes on the smokes. One, I don't yet trust my noob palate. Secondly, I just want to enjoy it not quantify it. I really enjoy reading others reviews to compare my experience to theirs, but when I think about charting it myself, I always think of that scene from "Dead Poets Society".
