Based on the title of this thread, I was afraid @smokinbrew ate something he shouldn't have! Anyone? (crickets).

I've had some really expensive sticks (a pair of Cohibas comes to mind) that were some the worst burning cigars I've had in 22 years of smoking. That said, I tend to agree that the more you spend, the less likely it is that you'll get a bad burning stick. YMMV.
I thought the same thing.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's because the cigar was inexpensive. Sometimes you just get a cigar that was rolled poorly. Can happen to anyone. I will say I would rather have it happen on a cheaper cigar than on one I paid a bunch of money for.

i agree brother, these weren't super expensive but enough. when i first saw them i thought here is a 2 buck cigar with a fancy label and an endorsement from a good tv show, so i was very skeptical then i smoked 5 or six of their red label black crowns and they were awesome, full of flavor, rolling smoke, laser straight burn, and here i thought to myself "damn they were pretty good" then i got these black crowns which were the originals and man i smoked two and had issues both times. guess ill give the last one away to my newbie nephew if he wants it LOL

Honestly brewer, that cigar was never touched up lol. You were touching it up before hand and then decided to stop? If I get more than a half inch outa Wack, I touch it up with my torch, until it's razor and would repeat as many times as necessary as I smoke on. Did you just get sick of touching it up and just let her run?

After smoking cigars for 40 years you're just gonna have to deal with cigars that do these things. When I have a cigar that has burn issues I keep my soft flame ready to 'redirct' the burn and keep going. I use to "wet" my cigars when I was having too many burn issues and that really helped fix them. ( Wetting cigars = holding the uncut cigar under a light stream of water for a few seconds....foot side down of course and then patting it dry with a paper towel and then leave it for a day and then smoke ) This process helps with the occasional cigars that tend to give us grief and makes the cigar burn straighter. Lately I've had good luck with no issues at all with my current cigars only because most of them have a resting period of at least 6 months.

Lol....there was a post on another Forum that talked about the "wetting process" and me being who I am will try most anything. Lo and behold this technique made a difference in those cigars that tended to canoe on me and wetting it and smoking the next day cured the problem. Woodstock....ahhhh the memories when men were men and the sheep were nervous.

I touched it up at the half inch point. Then my lighter got cold and was having issues so it wouldn't light for more than a quick second and I decided to let it run and see if it corrected itself be cause I never have had one that didn't for the most part correct itself . Took the picture you guys see. And then cut the ash off and relit. Still had the same problem canoeing in the same spot so I chalk it up to the roll.

when Ive been smoking in my garage lately ive had my torches quit on me. something ive found that helps is to slide them back into my pocket after I use them the body heat keeps em warm enough to work. ive used a dab of spit on my finger tip that ive rubbed right below a run in a pinch seems to have a 50/50 chance of helping but id recommend the touch up and if it gets to outta wack cut and relight or cut and stick in the piper

Speaking of Woodstock... The dab o' spit trick is something people use to stop a marijuana cigarette from running. So I've heard....

Kinda what I was thinking but I hate pitching a stick lol. I'm a finish what us start kinda guy lol. Was just thinking maybe It was my fault in the storage of it or something but I smoke their chapel edition and the red label one both were on point and smoked well.

I dont mind touch ups when it gets a bit wonky, almost look at it like a challenge...if it starts going real crazy and looking like a canoe that just needs a couple of paddles, well then I get pissed.

If it tastes like s#%t, I chuck it. Cannot stand it if it tastes BAD!!!! The La Casita Criolla met this fate in my chiminea.

I have had 4 or 5 of the Black Crown SOA cigars and all of them have burned straight for the most part. I don't know, I would hope its just an isolated issue as long as your storage and RH were all okay. I have never had a cigar canoe on me that bad but I'm anal about touch ups.

I ended up cutting the majority of the canoe off and relighting wasn't bad but I was a little disappointed on this stick. It's was an exploder towards the end and everything. Guess I'll just pass over these particular ones from now on. Thanks brothers
And there you go...
Any cigar is a test-for-yourself sorta deal, so weeding out cigars that burn poorly is a great (although completely frustrating) way to find a nice regular rotation of good smokes :)
