Mods, feel free to move this thread if it is not in the appropriate section.

Hey, Ryan from Famous Smoke Shop here.

Just curious to hear what some of you may have to say about ways we could improve the packing for our shipments? Throw in a Boveda pack? Something other than bubble wrap? Etc.

Would love to get your feedback and see about working your suggestions into our process.

Any other questions, comments, or suggestions on how we can improve the cigar shopping experience for you are more than welcome as well.

Thanks!

I've been happy with Famous packaging especially considering the volume they ship. Haven't had any issues myself. Could use a little more packing at times there's a void in the box allowing for a bit more movement within than I'd prefer, but never had damaged product.

Personally I prefer no boveda pack. Since stuff ships from the warehouse, I prefer it gets a bit of a head start in drying out while in transit :D

I don't know as I've ever had a problem with Famous packaging. Other shops, yeah, I'll get a fiver and a box thrown in with a few air packs, and the box inside crushes everything, or the cigars get messed up from tumbling around in there. Famous seems to do pretty good. My only suggestion would be to increase the packing volume, like Dan said, to further prevent movement inside the box.

x2 The packages (three to date) I've received from Famous have been packed very well, IMO. A Boveda would be nice, but I don't think it's necessary as I generally rest my sticks for a couple weeks to let the RH acclimate to my tupperdor.

My shipping experience has been great with Famous. I have had no issues with damage from shipping. I did receive a damaged stick but upon inspection of the baggie and everything and no sign of pig/fan tail remnants or loose tobacco it was damaged before it was packaged.
You guys were extremely quick to resolve that issue with a replacement. I took photos of the damage but you never even asked for that.
Keep it up.

I always like when cigars are shipped with a Boveda. Not sure how much impact it really has, but it makes me feel better:) Famous is usually very quick about shipping, so normally it's not an issue. But every now and then (not just Famous), the USPS decides to route my package around the world a few times before I get it (or so I have to assume based on the weeks long wait times...) and in those cases a Boveda would make me feel better.

I've had some come in a bubble wrap envelope. Not sure how well that really keeps them. I'm in MD so not far away and doubt they really have time to dry out before they get to me. Would rather see everything in a ziplock but don't necessarily need a boveda.

I would order a few cigars from Small Batch. Just to observe their process. In my opinion they are the standard by which all others should be judged in terms of shipping and customer service. Orders go out that day. The packaging is perfect. If there's any sort of issue with your order, they reply back to you within hours, and usually within 15 minutes. All problems are resolved, and resolved in the customers favor. For instance, they once had a thing where you enter the promo code RATZILLA and Small Batch sends you a free Ratzilla with your order. Mine didn't show up. I sent an email and two days later they sent me two Ratzillas. They toss in items (cutters, hats, free sticks, etc) just to let you know you're a good customer and that they appreciate your business.

Case in point. I ordered a box of cigars from [Someone] on a Saturday. I ordered another box of cigars from Small Batch the following Monday. My Small Batch box arrived on Wednesday. My box from [Someone] arrived on Thursday -- and there was a problem with my order. Other online cigar shops are good, but Small Batch is unmatched in my experience. I wouldn't order from any other store if I didn't have to.

As @atbat82 said in regards to Boveda packs, "Not sure how much impact it really has, but it makes me feel better."

Nothing against small batch but they probably don't have the same volume of shipments as Famous.

My famous stuff has always been shipped well. I do not know the amount of units of shipping and extra boveda would cut into profits on some level.

My suggestion would be either boveda in the winter or have option to add bovedas to your order for 25 cents or something (just throwing out a figure.)

I too have never had an issue with the packing of any shipment from Famous. I find it on par with Small Batch. The only difference had been the inclusion of a boveda. I too don't know how much of a difference it makes, but when I get a package with a boveda in it, it tells me you care that the cigars are taken care of. I then charge it up and include it in anything I send to someone else so they know that I care too.
