Wanted to send a general thanks to the brothers: I broke down yesterday and scooped up a Newair aw-121 for my first wineador build.

The slope is real, but quite frankly this purchase is a vast improvement over what I almost started with. Initially I budgeted $200 and planned on buying a traditional humi. I like high quality craftsmanship in my display items, so it would have landed me around a 50-75 count.

Due to the knowledge and sharing on this board I have side stepped that display item and have gone straight to what I consider to be a better option. I may still buy a humi box later down the road, but there's no question in my mind I'll be much better off with a wineador. Especially since I'm looking to make a box purchase or two.

Now it's time to figure out the drawer and humidification- which I'm looking forward to. I enjoy tinkering, over time this should be a fun little project!

Will post pics when it comes in. And by the way- cost came in at $84 shipped, so I've got some budget left to work with!

Congratulations and good luck. I purchased the New Air AW280 about a month and a half ago. I added in 6 drawers that I purchased from Forrest. I have been having a hell of a time trying to get a good even humidity top to bottom. Spent over $100.00 in HF beads. Now I pulled them out and trying the Bovida packs. Your unit is a bit smaller so you probably will not have the problems I have been having.

I just picked up some Exquisicat and going to try and get my baseline for Humidity. Also installing a small computer fan at the bottom to help with circulation.

Giddyup, brother -- you did the right thing! (y) Wineadors fix a bunch of problems all at once: more storage + better temperature control + consistent humidity = world peace. ;)
That's exactly what led me to this. It may not be necessary, but it makes me feel so much better about protecting my investment. Here in Houston it's super expensive to keep my house below 72-74 during the warm months. That in combination with 80% humidity on a regular basis gives me all the justification I needed!

Sorry to hear about the frustration you're experiencing. I know the Bovedas are highly trusted and many guys love their wineadors. Stick with it, you'll get the right combination.

My tupperdore has a Boveda 72 in it, and I'm planning to try for 65ish in this unit since I've seen some wrapper cracks. I am still so new I don't have any idea what my 'preferred' humidity is, so I'm planning to experiment and maybe develop one. It's all part of the journey.

Planning to start off with KL and see how it goes.

So she arrived today...

Looks perfect- the only damage is a very slight dent on the back side of the unit. Completely hidden, and very minor at that!

I'm pleased- don't hesitate to grab a scratch and dent if they are ever in stock. Apparently the standards at air & water are extremely high.

Now the real fun begins....

Ohhh bus drivers!!!!!!!

Really nice wineador. Good luck with it!! I think there's a member on here who makes draws and shelves custom to the wineador. I dont' remember his name or the link to his website. Get on the waiting list since it takes time to make them and he does them all by hand. It'll give you time to save up some more $$$$.

Congratulations. You might want to consider going with shelves rather than drawers. You will be able to handle more boxes. You might out grow that one faster then you think. I got a New Air 28 bottle about 1-1/2 months ago and it's almost filled to the max. I got room for only a few more boxes, when you see the sales & free shipping from these on ling cigars shops the temptation is hard to resist.

What the heck does "Bus Drivers" mean?? That one went right by me!

I realize that it could be a little short sighted to get one this size, but all things considered, I'm pleased. I intended my wineador to be a self imposed restriction on collection size. I originally wanted a 181, but could not pass up the deal on this one.

@GolfNut is already on the build for me, putting together a 2 drawer/1 shelf set. I'm estimating this will give me enough room for 2-4 boxes, plus around 75 loose cigars. Am I crazy, or in the right range there??

Granted I'm a newbie to the hobby, but I think ~150-200 cigars is a great size collection. If I'm not smoking enough to keep my collection size in that range, in my mind something is wrong. Estimating the sticks will average $6 each that's $900-$1200 in cigars, plus the wineador cost. Honestly I can't currently justify having more money than that in tobacco. I have 3 kids, one only 4 years away from college. I would like to own a boat some day, and have plans to re-work our house within the next few years. Oh ya, and then there's the pool that the entire family wants! The fact that I'm blessed enough to have a collection at all is humbling, given the road we've travelled.

I'm new, and my cigar "logic" may be unrealistic, but that's where I sit at the moment!

I love wine and keep a decent amount on hand. I'm even aging some nice cabernets. They're housed in a wine cooler, we overflow occasionally, but immediately stop buying if we do. I plan to operate my cigar collection on the same type of system, and hope it works the same way. We'll see!

Yea dude you'll be good with that size. No need to keep a bajillion boxes on hand. Keep a solid mixture of your favorite sticks and you'll be good.

So I've officially started using my wineador as of yesterday. I have to say that so far, KL is shockingly easy to use for humidification. I put some in right out of the bag to test it for a couple hours, sprayed it to get the humi up a little, and it's been running at a solid 68% since. This is a little higher humidity than I plan to run in the long term, but it will work for now. I went ahead and dropped in my stash and set the Las Calaveras on the top rack: lo and behold it settled right back in at 68% and was still holding there this morning when I left. I'll send some pics when I get home, it looks very nice!
