Well, following Stradawhovious's build here...

http://www.stogiefriends.com/forum/thread/2159/temperature-controllers/

...I decided that since I was working on a new Wineador build, I just had to do my own!

I promised sdlaird that I would post a build thread, and I just finished wiring it up tonight, so here it is!

I started with the same ETC, an STC-1000, I bought here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/All-Purpose-STC-1000-Digital-Temperature-Control-Controller-with-Sensor-110V-/190808583583?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c6d13ed9f

Then, sdlaird came through big time with a Tatuaje TAA 2012 box (which wasn't empty like it was supposed to be!). I wanted one that had a shorter form factor, and the TAA box fit the bill perfectly!

So here's the build process:

First, got my Tat box, $20 ETC, and a $7 extension cord:

Traced the outline:

Used a Dremel saw to cut the rectangle out:

Fits perfectly!

Got a little carried away drilling holes. First thought I'd out the cords on the outside of the box, then decided closer to the middle was better. The outside is for... ventilation. Yeah, that's it, ventilation!

Box wired up:

Then got all the wires inside connected, and the temp sensor attached:

EDIT: Here's a quick diagram of how to wire it. (credit to Stradawhovious) for sharing it with me!

And there she sits!

A very huge thanks to Stradawhovious, who helped me immensely by telling me how to wire the darn thing, and to sdlaird for hooking me up with the box! As you can see, it's perfect!

Excellent, I did the same thing with mine and stuck it in an old sliding lid box. I see your wiring is the same that Lilnija just sent me, gotta go home and do some wiring. Good post, Thank you

Here's the wiring instructions I got from Stradawhovious:

ok, I don't know a whole lot about wineadors...but don't they already come temp controlled?
They are, but not only can the temp be off, they often run too often (which can wear out the control boart more quickly) and pull the temps down farther than Im comfortable with. For example mine wants to bring it down to the high. 50's even though I had it set to 65.

Also, if the power goes out, the units default to lowest temp when it comes back on. The ETC has a memory and will return to the programmed setting.

Thanks Ninja, but im lost. Did you have to wire into the control board on your winedor? Also do you need a SSR?

I think I see what you did there, hahaha.

Nope, although that is possible. You could cut the power cord of the wineador, and wire the ETC unit directly that way, but it's unnecessary, and would mean rewiring if you ever got a new wineador.

What I did was take a regular grounded extension cord, cut the female end off about a foot long, and wired both pieces to the ETC. So you plug the male end of the extension cord into the wall, and plug the wineador into the female end. Then I ran the temp sensor (which comes with the ETC) from inside the wineador, snaked it through the train hole, and connected it to the ETC.

The ETC turns power on and off based on the temp inside the wineador. Since when a wineador gets power it defaults to the lowest temp setting (like 56* or something), it immediately starts cooling. Once it's cooled to the temp set on the ETC, the ETC cuts power, and the wineador shuts off, preventing over-cooling. The ETC allows you to program in a time delay and a degree variation to prevent the wineador from being turned on and off too frequently as well.

Does that makes sense? LMK if you have other questions!

I have one as well, used internally for my fans. If you're looking on ebay I got mine years ago but if memory serves correctly, be sure you check the item specs.. I believe some are 12vdc some are 120VAC. And the temp displays more commonly come in Celsius. Mine is 12VDC / Cel
Just sayin...

Great thread Derek. I may have to look into doing this now that you've made it seem so easy.

Question: Do you guys run extra internal fans off this so they also run when unit runs or still keep them on a separate timer.

I never wired anything separate. The unit runs often enough to move air around. Between that and opening the door I figure there's plenty of air movement. I also don't like a fan blowing on my cigars any more than necessary. No scientific reason, just don't see how it could benefit.

Just picked up two more for my other wineador and got these off of ebay for $13. Also you can find them in Fahrenheit, that's what I got.

Oh Yeah they're out there. At the time of my build in 2013 all I could find in 12VDC was Celsius.
It's OK, I only had to do the math once. ...

I travel a bit and in the winter my one 2003 car does not have a thermometer for outside temp ( no Driver Information Console )
I like to know when the wet highway or rain is approaching freezing. Woul really like 0-100F. All the 12v cool ones for in dash like this are in Celcius

Thanks for posting this fellas. My temp control is way off according to my thermos inside relative to the 280e temp display. I bought an extra controller for a possibility of another wineador as well, my coolidor is becoming an obstruction.
