What goes well with what? I know that Cognac goes well with a Stick....But which Stick? Any recommendations for a relaxing combo of either? I enjoy a good Merlot. Blackstone is a good one. Which would go good with it?
Now is that any way to treat your Dad.:grinFU:
Nice try Chuck...no Davidoff here. :dunno:Now is that any way to treat your Dad.
Back in my wine days I found that it was ALWAYS best to match the year of the wine with the year of the cigar. I suggest a very nice 87 Chateau La Fit. Im sure Todd has a nice 87 Davidoff to match. :stretchgr
Just helping out here.
Ahhhhh, it reminded me of a certain conversation at a local brewery :wink:Nice top BTW Greg.
While I gested with my response, thank you for this one. Great info.Wine pairing with cigars are alot more complicated than cigar and hard liquor combonations.
The trick to pairing with wine is simple, keep the body of the wine equal or greater than the strength of your cigar. This automaticly cancels out most white wine. I have yet to find a dry white wine that pairs well with a cigar. The cigar usualy just takes over the more subtle flavors of white wine. Some great whites with a gar are Sauternes (a sweet white wine made in the Bordeaux region of France) and German Rieslings. Most German Rieslings over a kabinett will pair best. The above mentioned wines are very well built with alot of sweetness but a huge amount of acidity to balance it all out.
Now to the fun stuff, red wine. Everyone knows about cigars and port and how its a classic pairing. There are lots of different styles of port too, ruby port is cheap and cheerful with loads of jammyness and suit maduro cigars wonderfuly. Tawnys are more complex with loads of chocolate, tobacco, rasin and nut notes with alot of wood. That heavy wood makes a great sidekick for full bodied woody cigars such as cohibas.
Sherry although mostly unfassionable these days makes a nice pairing with cigars too. In the summer a small glass of Tio Pepe is great with a cigar. its refreshing and although its vinified dry the 20% alc keeps it from being engulphed by the cigar. Sweeter sherry is also great. a nutty Oloroso is always a fun too.
For the most part I dont enjoy drinking regular red wine with my cigars but a few styles i found do pair well with a good smoke are wines from the Rioja, cabs and shiraz from Barossa Vally, Australia and Grenache from southern france as well as south Rhone wines such as Chateau neuf de pape. What these wines have in common are they all are fairly big bold wines. Lots of sun in all the above mentioned growing regions and that translates to fuller bodies and slightly more fruit forward wines. You could almost liken the wines to a ruby port in their jammyness. That combined with a liberal use of Oak makes these wines more than acessable for fine cigar pairings.
If anyone would like the name of a few producers to try out feel free to PM me.
oh, and on a completely different note, is this not the most gay smilie ever? :kissforeh
