Hey guys -- quick question. I've been struggling to keep my coolidor below 70%. It's a 2.5 cuft Whynter with cedar drawers and shelves. I presently use a Cigar Oasis, but it just won't allow the humidity below 70% no matter how low I set it (my hygro was recently calibrated).

I'm wondering if I can use Boveda 65s in this thing; does anyone else do the same?

Don't bother with the cigar oasis. That's the same mistake I made. If your ambient RH is typically higher, a Cigar oasis wouldn't make sense. The 'active' humidifier only helps aid to bring up the RH, it wouldn't bring down RH at all. It doesn't have any dehumidifying function. You don't need a CO unless you have a very dry climate or low ambient RH (<65% and lower)

Boveda65 and heartfelt beads 65 are supposedly two ways. It should work with a sufficient amount.

Based on the knowledge I got here (in the forum), I'm assuming you have a dry weather since people are asking you to open the door to let the air in. That being said, very likely it's going back up to 70% because of your cedar wood where it's moist, giving off some humidity (over time they will dry out)

The volume of cigars to any humidor/coolidor/tupperador should be around the 75% fill rate to let enough air inside and for the cigars to not be so cramped inside. Some will want to fill them up at almost a 100% which doesn't allow for any free air flow inside. For any humidor that isn't able to keep a regulated RH there is an issue with storage and storage media...usually there isn't sufficient media to regulate and there are charts from HF that help with that issue but I've seen where they tell consumers that an ounce is sufficient for let's say a 50 count humidor....sorry, that's BS. We need more and I've found over the years when I used Beads that one needs to almost double the volume of them in order to have a stable RH. For a humidor that holds 200 cigars using at least 6 ounces works w/o worry. I've since turned over to KL because with 30 humidors of varying types...tupperware, coolers, wood I was spending more money than I wanted to with Beads so I made the conversion slowly over to KL. Each and everytime I converted my humis it was success after success and I use KL for at least 25 and beads with the other 5.

Bovedas are great for smaller humidors but as they say on their site they aren't made to recharge so your back to spending $$$$ every 6 months. I know some will recharge them and if they work well then you've gained and saved some $$$ but then why does Boveda say they aren't a rechargeable item?

I have commercial humidors at multiple locations and I trust everything to Boveda. My personal cigars, our inventory, and all of our remote sites. Everything.

Yes, there is recurring expense, but it's pretty minimal. Those suckers last for awhile. For the hands off peace of mind, it's totally worth it to me.
