Hi, y'all.
I have been smoking cigars daily for about 20 years. I am now a home roller with about 7 months, 500 sticks, and 100 blends worth of experience. I have used most of the tobaccos at both WLT and LO. I could probably chime in with an opinion on a lot of things to do with rolling your own at this point but still consider myself at the beginning of the learning curve and the whole thing is still mostly a mystery to me. I consider it a very long process, learning to roll and blend and about tobacco in general, and consider the $1.50 sticks to be a very nice side benefit to the learning aspect.

Here are my cigars from last night's marathon rolling session. Looks like @BrewinHooligan and I were rolling together from all the way across the country! LOL

Most of these ended up being way to large in diameter for my preference. I only have one or two that are a good diameter. I really need to get a mold I think to help out with sizing. I'll be checking out Etzy - but i may just take a chance and order one of the used 50 ring molds from WLT.

This is the nicest one from the session. Someday I hope to have a whole batch that look just like this!
I didn't see them posted here, though maybe it has already been mentioned. For an investment of around a buck you could try these in the short term. And they make PVC in several diameters so you could pick your "ring gauge".

I've seen those before and totally forgot about that. I probably have enough pvc pipe laying around to me a big pile of molds! Thanks for the reminder!

I'm using Xamthum Gum on my cigars. I don't have any experience with anything else so have no idea the properties of anything else. Can anyone that's used this and decided to move onto something else give a description of how what you moved onto was better or a brief positive/negatives of the different glues you've used?

That's what I've been using and like how it works. I have used pectin as well but stopped when I heard how it can sour if you don't smoke the sticks early on. I may be ordering some of the cigar glue above to see if I like it better.

I can't say whether I've ever used xantham gum, unless that's what's in the little glue envelopes that you get with WLT wrapper leaf, which was very good stuff, iIrc.

Thanks, Hooli. Well maybe you do have'em. I know I have a long way to go in that department, but it's fun to always try to get better with every stick.
Speaking of which I have to get around to posting a little vid of a couple changes I've made to my method....

Make sure to link up here when you do please! Of the ten I rolled yesterday I only successfully capped one which is the one with a fan tail and I am real happy with that one.

Finally got around to getting the leaf that @USHOG grew and bombed me coming up to case. Excited for the criollo as that's one of my favorite strains. I'm hoping I can get wrappers out of most of the Sumatra and the Gold Leaf Havana filler looks and smells intriguing but not too sure what to expect as I haven't been able to find any info on the strain online yet. Will probably roll a small cheroot out of it in the morning to get a feel for it

yeah, good to see you over here too! .. I thought you were already here.
Thanks, Marc. It really seems like there needs to be one agnostic (not WLT or LO-only) forum for rollers, doesn't it? I'm currently on 5 different forums, which is about the worldwide roller count. Not a super efficient way for a small cult to stay in communication....

Getting a little faster. Knocked all these out in just over 5 hours start to finish. Had a couple real ugly ones I will keep for myself and the rest as usual will probably be shared
I was half glancing and half talking to the Mrs... Mistook them for Ligas for about 2 seconds, must have done a good job! Love the labels as well.

Almost perfectly stated perhaps I think. ... figure where we fit in can get objective when a forum is associated with sales. That leaves 3 forums that do have other common non-objective like minded possible people to recruit. Maybe some forum that is more refined for rollers?

On the glue I've stuck with is this gum tragacanth powder that is one of the few without sugar or anything added. It's a little more expensive but say food grade. the liquids are just to thin for what I like. I use it 8 to 1. more of a thick paste.

Just finished watching this video. Thank you for sharing Marc as I feel like I struggle with wrapping my perfectos. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like they wrap a flag around the foot of the cigar and don't apply a traditional cap. If this is appropriate for perfectos I think I may have found a solution to some issues I've been having.
