So I got my new HDTV last week and then Dish came by on Friday to hook up my new HD-DVR receiver. I was at work, but my son was home for the installation. The rookie who did the install did not understand how to hook up the component sound cables to my TV, so it was not working when I got home. I fixed this, but then we had bad reception. Seems like the installer also did not tighten all the coax cables. Fixed this and then it was working fine, until ..................... the 4th qtr of the NE / NYJ game. Then I lose ALL satellite reception. :angerhead

I go through the receiver setup and have zero signal. I call Dish, and they say it's a cable problem and cannot do anything until Monday. :closedmou

Call em and tell em their guy caused the problem and that their motto is "Good customer service" and just where does "Wait till Monday" fit?

I have Dish Network and I'm on the fence weather I'm going to stay with it or not. I also had bad luck with the installation.

When we get storms the dish goes out 15 minutes prior to the storm getting here, during the storm and about 15 minutes after it passes. And its always during a race!

In the winter if to much ice or snow build up on the dish it goes out too.

The problem with going to cable is a package from Comcast that is similar will cost me over $75 a month. Then I need internet another $35 or so. I also lose my long distance phone plan since my dsl/phone/DishNetwork are all packaged thru AT&T. So I will have a $50 phone bill, so now it cost me more then the package I got already. I can get phone also through Comcast, but its VOIP. So I'm not sure what to do yet.

Spray the dish down real good with PAM...I haven't had a problem with build up since doing this.

I've been with Dish for 10 years ... but if they don't fix this problem in a hurry, then even blow jobs from Heidi Klum aren't gonna keep me a customer.
We wanted to be able to DVR on two sets. The offer in all they flyers was a package deal with hi speed internet, phone and 4 set hook up with dual dvr. It took asking for customer retention to get the package. The guy sets it all up and I say, "How do I use the dver on the second set?" Oh that not the right unit. We will ship it. Now I have five Dish boxes and wait for them to show up to set it up. Check the credit card bill and they hit me for $350 bucks for the two new units; one I dont need and one that is not installed. Thier response? Oh we didnt hear from you so assumed you were BUYING two new units. Total cluster*uck.

I've never cared too much for satellite. I've always preferred Cable. But Cable sucks too.

You're screwed either way, if you ask me!

I gave up on cable after a $250 installation in Grand Rapids, MI, (from the street up our private road to the house) and then it went out every time they plowed. We found out in the spring they ran the cable across an edge of the driveway under the snow. Sat is great. Installation sucks. I have to find someone that knows this stuff and just pay them to do it.

I have not had a single problem with DirecTV (and we've had some major rain and wind storms recently... it hasn't went out once).

I know several people who tried Dish and had problem after problem. They got rid of it, switched to DirecTV and never had another problem.

YMMV, of course, but that's been my experience.

My uncle had it in the house we're in now but I had it switched to cable because although I HATE Charter (the company), it's extremely convenient and the service is awesome.

I was not a fan of DirectTV and though cable was more expensive I went with it because they always offered the fasted internet connection. But finally got fed up with being price screwed and when we went shopping for new service for tv DirectTV offered the best price for more channels, got free install two boxes free plus DVR with Total Plus for $50.00 a month. If anyone wants to sign up let me know we each get $50.00 Visa gc for it. You get free install, and directv for up to 4 rooms.

I never thought I would EVER like DirectTV , since I grew up with Dish, but Dish doesn't offer the best deals anymore and they keep cutting back on channels offered.

I am now a BIG fan of digital DirectTV and enjoy a great selection of channels.

Satellite is great until a storm hits. We've always had cable though and it's great to bundle it with cable internet.
