I had one yesterday for the first time, really a fantastic cigar. I enjoyed it but not the last 2". Seemed like a great value to me. I would have no problem buying a box.

Decent cigar, but that 97 rating is laughable. Money talks!
To each his own opinion but I love this smoke and if given one blind, I could easily see someone giving it a 97. This smoke doesn't need money thrown around to achieve a 97. Now the rocky or CAO flathead...I wouldn't argue you if your statement pertained to those even being in the top 25

Don't want to sidetrack this thread (too much) but have you smoked the Rocky and/or CAO that made the list?

Yes I have, good question though.
Ok, just asking. I haven't smoked either, but I have smoked a few other Rocky Patels and enjoyed all but one of them. I think he makes good cigars and seems to care about the business, so I didn't understand what appeared to be the knee jerk reaction against that cigar being on the list in the 2015 top 25 thread. Everybody can't have smoked it and every other stick that was in the list at the time. Seemed more like emotion than anything objective.

From last year's list, I have smoked #1, #2 (not sure if the same vitola though, was from a sampler and forgot to note it) and the RP Royale toro that was #5, and I felt like the Rocky stick was just as good as the others.

I haven't had anything in the top 10 yet from this year, but hopefully somebody will offer a sampler of some or all of the non-cuban ones so I can get a chance.

I prefer the toro over the torpedo but I'm just not a fan of torps. Love the blend though the last 3rd is kind of a disappointment for my taste. Mainly that it mellows out too much.
Not sure I'd say this deserves #1 but they've always been a great cigar. I don't know what made them special this year though. I wish someone made a list like this but strictly for 2015 releases.

Any list is gonna have a tough time pleasing people this year, there were more not just good but great releases this year than I can recall in years. As for the Edge making the list, out of all of Rocky's other releases, is a bit of a mystery, but since they only smoke the first third of any cigar, it must have been a good first third that day. You could create a top 50 best of 2015 and still miss a lot of great cigars this year.

The fact is, the Edge line is a value line and may be a good goto in certain situations but doesn't have the qualities (IMO) to even come close to top 25 let alone #7. I'm not sure if there is an "underbelly" to the CA ranking system and money is indeed changing hand in one way or another or if that stick just hit there palettes the right way on that given day. When it comes down to it, they only smoke the first inch when judging the cigar (side note below) so I don't know why I'm even giving their rankings my "breath"

Side note: the fact that they can give a value to cigars after the first inch, is ridiculous. Cigars are blended to be smoked and evolve as it burns down and to be experienced through and through. It's like covering 85% of a painting and asking a judge to value it based on 15%.

I personally find the Le Bijou to be in my top 10 this year for sure if not scraping the top spots in that list. Each pallet is different but I feel this was a good choice for a #1 this year.

I think the le bijou 1922 is one of the best NC cigars I've had this year, I havn't tried the torpedo, bit I don't normally smoke torps.

The entire list is a joke. Only one Patel cigar in the top 10? I don't take any list seriously that doesn't include at least 3 RP and either a Fighting Cock or Ron Mexico in the top 10.
In all seriousness, the list is ridiculous and I've never had a Le Bijou I'd give more than a 92 to, so a 97 is laughable to me. Flathead a 95 rating? RP Edge 94? GTFO with that garbage.
How about the fact that this list means nothing to us in the forum world as virtually zero limiteds or store releases have ever appeared on the list. Go back and look for classic releases like the Frank, Boris, Barclay Rex, Dirty Rat, or DES. Those weren't top 25 cigars from those years? Would anybody on this site compose a top 25 list from 2014 that didnt include the Las Calaveras? Would anybody make a top 25 list this year that didn't include the Warped Unico Especial? But small brands and small releases almost never garner any consideration on their list (the only example I can think of that did make the list is the Viaje VOR no 5, but theres probably more) and thus should have no real value to anyone who is truly in the hobby of cigars.

Cigar Aficionado's top 25 cigars of 2015 criteria said:
"We also disqualified any cigars that are no longer on the market, or those that were made in such small quantities that they were no longer available."
So it might be that they are missing the true "best" cigars of the year by doing this, but small releases are not included by design in the competition.

Small brands should be considered, but yeah, the mag is probably not going to be reviewing them so they wouldn't be in the competition either. Still, I like to think given their criteria for the voting that the outcome is not simply rigged. I think it's cool to seek them out and see if you agree with the placement, and it would be harder to do for small brands or small releases that are no longer available.
