My wooden humidor isn't holding up to the winter temps.Looks like I'm going to have to pick up a cooler this weekend. Any suggestions on good brands/sizes? I don't have to relocate very many sticks, just have 40 or so in there now, so something small with a good seal should work fine. Also, I do not shop at Walmart (I refuse to enter that place). So keep that in mind. I don't know if they are all basically the same or not, just wondering what you guys use. Thanks

Given the inexpensive nature of these, I wouldn't actually hesitate to start smaller. Go with something roughly 50% larger than you need right now, and when that's packed full, upgrade and double your space again. Maintaining a large, mostly-empty cooler is more challenging because every time you open the thing, you'll exchange all the air, so there's a lot more for the rh medium to do, and when coolers are so cheap, it doesn't hurt to upgrade incrementally.

I'm just using this one to replace my desktop for the winter, a 48 quart would be overkill for even twice what I plan to put in it. Maybe I'll get some wooden boxes from the b&m to fill in the empty space for now. Wouldn't be a bad idea to have the extra space if I needed it one day in the future

What are you thinking? Like a 30 quart or something around that range?

Mark my words...

Your stash is going to double in the next 60 days...

In the next 12 months it will have quadrupled at a minimum...

You MIGHT stabilize by that point... But it's unlikely..

The slope is slippery, steep, and most of us never find the bottom of the hill... You just keep tumbling down further, and further, and further..

Plan for the future :)

Listen to the wise ones here. I started with an old freebie desktop humidor that I had. I thought it was HUGE. I also added a smaller desktop humidor that I got on the cheap.
Here they are:

I quickly outgrew those and added a medium size cooler that I had around. Outgrew that and replaced it with a larger cooler.

Now, six months into my cigar adventure, I'm into this... (and yes I've already posted pics of it FULL)

So yeah... plan big! LOL

But to answer your question... any cooler will do. The first one I used was damn near as old as me and it worked just fine.

I already have a decent (to me) collection built up. I have around 80 sticks total. I have a small mini fridge that I use that has what's left of a few boxes and a handful of singles, it just doesn't have the room for everything unless I take the boxes and shelves out.

I would love to be in your shoes, but I just got married in August and me and the wife are on the quest to buy a house this year. It will be nearly impossible to acquire the funds from the boss for anything more than a fiver here and there until this happens. Once we get a house though, it's on

I think you're going about it the right way at least. No sense in spending a ton of money bigger humidors. Going big sterilite/ziploc storage containers or coolers is the right way to go. I'm not as worried about temperature fluctuations so I have a couple of these in my closet:

http://www.target.com/p/ziploc-weathershield-storage-box-26-5-qt/-/A-17088678#prodSlot=medium_1_18&term=ziploc+container
http://www.target.com/p/sterilite-54-qt-air-tight-storage-tote-transparent-with-blue-latch/-/A-15079778#prodSlot=medium_1_45

They're cheap and have done great for me

I think he's saying he needs some help getting some new sticks without the wife getting mad...... (quietly loading up SFR)
