You're going to be an expert on the matter when this is all over.

I've successfully avoided becoming an expert at anything for nearly a quarter century. Starting now just seems silly. :p A brother is coming in to town tonight, so we're going to play Operation with this junker and see what can be done.

I have 2 coolers with that same problem, my house doesn't have ac and in the summer time it can get up to 94 degrees inside. Both units were working too hard to keep cool and finally went out, I watched a bunch of youtube videos on how to replace the cooling unit and decided it wasn't worth doing. I didn't want to throw more money at them for it not to work so I went a different route, found a mini fridge for cheap and wired up the temp control unit so that the compressor doesn't run all day long and it's been working great for about 3 months now. I can leave this in my garage and not worry about it getting too hot cause it's insulated better than the wine coolers.

The way that a peltier junction works is that almost of a heat pump. As current flows through the junction, one side gets hot, one side gets cold. As you cool the hot side, the cold side gets even colder. So yeah, the inside of the unit is capable of dropping WELL below the ambient temperature outside. The good news, its probably easy to fix. The bad news, unless you have exact parts replacements, it'll take a little hacking. I've done quite a bit of experimentation with peltier junctions over the years.

I doubt it matters much. Airflow over the heatsink is what dissapates heat. Whether pushing or pulling, it will still cool it. One way is probably best, but i woudnt obsess over it.

Unit still does not cool. Both fans and LED operate, but no cooling within occurs and no heat is noticeable on the back. This leads me to believe the peltier is most likely broken or not receiving power. Thoughts? Upside, the dust bunny colony has been eradicated.

Luckily, a brother with some extreme knowledge and array of peltiers happens to be coming to town tonight. Surgery to replace it will be in the morning.

You'll know if the peltier is operating.. they dont get kind of cold, they get NASTY cold. Theres not a ton of middle ground. I ran one without proper cooling once, and melted the thermal junction inside. That sucker was smoking.

Take pictures and let us know what he does to fix it, my guess is that its the peilter.

Peltier swapped out after old one was tested and pronounced dead. It had been acting as a huge resistor essentially, trapping heat and raising the temperature in the unit.

We are in business, gentlemen!

Major thanks to the mad science and tech skills of @Chetmystery

Great brother and longtime friend.

Cheers,
