Yes, accordion method. All the filler and binder was already prepped. Filler doesn't take long at all to prep, binder takes a little more time. I bring the binder up to case by spraying gently then placing in a large plastic bag like a garbage bag where I let it sit anywhere from a few hours to overnight, then strip the midrib and it's ready to rock.
Rolling for events and also for online sales that he does. He made 150 "bodies" as he calls them yesterday and 100 today. Has a two day event in Vegas this weekend. The scrap on the side there is not all just thrown out. We place that scrap in the foot of the cigar to even the fill there and help the cigar light easily so it does all get used eventually. One thing I found interesting is tonight Willy was spraying the leaf with a light brown, sweet smelling liquid to hydrate. I couldn't place if it was rum or cognac or something else mixed with water in his spray bottle and I didn't have the nerve to ask all his secrets yet. His daughter came out and spoke to me for a little bit and said she is surprised, he has never taught anyone before how to roll cigars. People have offered him $1,000 for lessons and he has turned it down. I feel very fortunate that he has chosen to teach me.

Yes... well that makes more sense time wise... I average the same on dressing. Maybe it's the extra step of marination that takes me so damn long bunching
I"m never bunched more than 10 unmarinated at a time and never tried to rush it. My events are usually private VIP parties so I have plenty of time and when I anticipate I won't due to numbers, I pull out prebunched ones and dress every other stick and bunch every other stick. I have one public event coming up... I suppose I should test my pace... or... I could just roll with it and folks get what they get ... if they are lucky lol... lol... There in fact should be nothing cheap about hand rolled cigars made in THE USA. We are not indigenous servants or field workers or mass manufacturers abroad... we are American Made Rolling American Made and that puts our stick value at the top of the list. We could never afford to hand roll quality fine leaf in the amount of time that it takes to process a stick from start to finish and sell for pennies on the dollar. It's like Artists who work 100 hours on a piece they sell for 100 bucks because ones like it at Ross sell for 80 and were mass produced in a matter or minutes. A lot goes into the presentation of a stick... even if it's hand rolled at an event... once you move from hobbies to event exhibitor you change gears and must take into account the sales price not just the pleasure of rolling and smoking or your labor in vein. If I sold cigars my price would not budge because someone wanted something "cheap" ... I roll expensive sticks and I'd charge for every step in the process not just the 5 min dress. Hell a dress on a rack in Target reflects more than the arrangement of fibers. Cheap cigar snobs can keep on movin cause I'll keep on rollin I'm aware my sticks aren't for every pocket and I'm comfortable with that. Unless I'm rolling a high end blend my price is my price... but I don't sell cigars I commend you on taking fiscal responsibility... both rolling and smoking are expensive lifestyles so finding ways to cut costs and still have a fine product is honorable. ~xox
Awwwwwwwww... that is disappointing! Sometimes event hosts don't know the difference between bunch rolling and wrap rolling... they just say rolling cigars... most events, the roller is wrapping not rolling a from bunch to wrap. In house cigar rollers will have an in house lab and will bunch and wrap on location. It's not as common to find a roller bunching and warpping at a public event. I do both... I bring prebunched to wrap and alternate with new bunching.
I hope you try another event... it's fun and you meet a lot of folks and can share lots of information with them that they didn't always realize ... they then gain a higher appreciation and respect for the craft they are about to cremate. ~xox
