Yeah, lapyap doesn't allow for anyone to hold an authorization longer than 7 days, and requires the initial authorization immediately upon placing the order. On credit card most companies (like Famous) don't charge for the preorder until it ships. I'm not sure what others do, but we only take pre-orders for what we know we are getting from the vendor, even if we ordered more. That doesn't mean it all arrives on the same day, like for the skinny monsters, we got half our shipment each week for two weeks.
Same here, we only do pre-order for what we know we are getting, and like Jim, we have been shorted on what was said was shipping and had it broken up which is a PITA for retailers.

no seriously, i'm good. after all the feedback, i really think it boils down to the fact that i pre-ordered using lapyap. And after jim mentioned that, lapyap doesn't allow for anyone to hold an authorization longer than 7 days, and requires the initial authorization immediately upon placing the order. that clears things up. so for the future, just gonna grab my credit card next time for all pre-orders.

Back in May, I pre-ordered the Las Calaveras 2016 Cigar Sampler and finally got around to checking in on the status. In all honesty, I kind of forgot about it.

I called up the vendor (not trying to name names here) and they pretty much said that the item is discontinued and no longer available. The rep spoke with her supervisor and he said unfortunately, someone should have contacted you about that. And at this time, there is nothing they can do. So, pretty much I'm SOL.

I'm pretty bummed, but more out of principle than anything. I don't understand how pre-orders can be messed up and why there was no communication if they did take too many pre-orders.

I guess my question is, for pre-orders, are consumers the ones that take the full risk if the retailer is not able to fulfill the order?

Oh yeah and no worries, I'm going to hit up my buddy and snag a 5er of the LC2016 from him, he just doesn't know it yet.
I almost had the same happen. I thought I pre-paid but they don't charge until they ship. By that time the order came in the card authorization had timed out. So I had to call and give new card info. It seems that is a vender does pre-orders ( you know who you are- but I won't call you out). They should try to figure out this hiccup.

Banks make and change the rules on auths, charges, etc. Each type of card or payment serives has different rules and regulations. It would be great if as vendors we controlled the banks too, but they make the rules we have to follow.

We used to charge preorders when the order was placed (years ago). The problem with that is people got really upset when the vendor delayed shipping by say two months and people were out money without product.

It's a catch 22. The other issue we run into more often than any other is people maxing out their cards or drawing down their checking accounts between the preorder and when the product comes in to ship. Happens almost on a daily basis. Person preorders but doesn't have the funds or credit when it comes to finalizing the charge.

I kind of like when a vendor charges my lapyap account at the time of order. They have my money for a couple of months but I feel like I'm more locked in. I would be upset if they then goofed and had to refund my funds though. Fortunately that hasn't happened to me.

Thats good feedback. We are currently going through a processor change for our payment processing. I will certainly pass this onto the IT team for their development notes.
