I need some advice with my humidor. I seasoned it for 14 days using the 84% Boveda seasoning packs and i removed them after the period and my hygrometer was reading 78%. I replaced the packs with (3) 69% bovedas Saturday morning and shut the lid. Sunday morning (24 hours later) i checked the hygrometer and it is reading 72% what should I do....since it is a wooden humidor I was expecting the reading to be no higher than 69%.
Just some background info, the hygrometer was calibrated using the Boveda calibration kit and it was dead nuts on.
The humidor is a medium Ashton Savoy 25-50 count and the seal passed the dollar bill test.
Should I wait another day before putting my cigars into it?
Any advice is appreciated

Im no expert like @sofc but it seems to me that perhaps the boveda is still working out the excess humidity and im guessing you are fine to throw them in and relax.

It will balance with your sticks... This is normal, I had the same issue with the Daniel Marshall. It holds 64-65 with 65 bovedas in it. As a precaution don't smoke the sticks you put in it for a few days after it stabalises or drybox first.

Throw the sticks in and let it stabilize.

I agree with everybody else. The wood is probably releasing moisture in to the air of your humidor at a faster rate than the bovedas can absorb it. No big deal, it will stabilize in time. It also probably means your humidor has a good seal, so congrats!

Just want to thank everybody for their help with my humidor question. It has been 3 days since my original post. Just an update.....my humidor has been holding steady at 67% with 69% Boveda's in it and 30 cigars in it.

Isn't 65 bovedas just a bit of overkill?

Just echoing the final solution here, along with some personal observations.

I seasoned 2 - 14x10x6.5 humidors with Boveda 84% for two weeks. Replaced with 72%, and loaded them up with sticks. Initial readings dropped right away to 72-73%. Using less than the recommended bags (4), with 2 on the upper tray and two on the bottom. Humidors stabilized at 70-71%. Have since dropped all bags to lower level, standing up the 4 bags between the two adjustable dividers. Humidors now stabilized at 68-69%. Since this is well under the 72% rating, I'm not sure if this is due to relocation of the bags or the addition of new sticks.

When new sticks arrive, I partially open the sealed 5-pks, and place 20-25 into a large freezer bag with a 69% Boveda bag and seal it. Then, add them as replacements to the humidors when possible. (FWIW, I'm not sure what the actual % rh my shipments are, so as an experiment, I've put the 5-pks UN-sealed into a freezer bag with a 69% Boveda pk to see. Right on 69%! BUT, I've had some odd smokes lately (canoeing, relighting, plugs, odd burns, soft cigars, etc), so was curious to see what would happen if I opened the 5-pks to "let them breathe". Jury is still out on that one.
