How do you decide what smokes you will buy next? Is it just whatever’s got the best sale price? or do you buy based on recommendations ? Or just plain old curiosity. I usually go with a even mix of the three when It comes to picking out my next purchase.

A mixture of both. I buy when there's a deal on something I really want to check out based on other people's recommendations or whats "new" sometimes. I also buy when there's something on sale that's a good deal and a regular rotation smoke.

Read a bunch of reviews, best cigar lists, BOTL recommendations and make a list of the cigars you want to try either as singles or 5 packs. Use this list to pickup cigars as you go. Add to the list as you find others you want to try and delete from the list as you buy them. Eventually your gotta try list will decrease in size as you lists of like and don't like will get larger. It seems to work pretty well for me.

Solid advice. ^^^

The best cigar lists have done me dirty though but you still have to try them for yourself.

I guess I'm an opportunist - if it's a reliable smoke that I know I'll enjoy and it's a good deal, I'll buy a box to stock up - never hurts to have some "I want to smoke but idk what I want to smoke" smokes that you can count on. If someone's having an awesome "everything on sale" deal and I see some things I want to try, then that's a good time to add singles. Maybe fivers if it's a brand/factory/industry celeb that you know you like, or if you're on cbid and you can get it super cheap and you're already paying flat shipping on something else... And sometimes I'll buy in the FS section here, if I find a chance to buy something I either know I like, or missed on and can reasonably expect that I'll like it. Never been disappointed doing that.

Patience is key to all of the above - if you absolutely positively have to try something new right now, go to the B&M and buy a single or 2 (y)

All solid advice above but another source would be to pick up a MASW, MAW or NHIE list and post your own list. A fun way to send some smokes to another brother and get some you want to try in return. You’ll end up getting a wide variety of smokes and it is fun.

I'm always looking at deals for cigars I know I really like. I will also try cigars that sound like they're in my wheelhouse or even blends done by people I like. I've started to get away from shotgun style experimenting, but that is mainly due to having a pretty solid idea of what I like and don't like.

This right here^^^^^

I’ll also add onto it that age can improve, ruin a smoke, or stays the same as it was fresh ROTT. And ruin as in flavors are mute or pretty much gone. At least I’ve seen that from my own personal experience with a few smokes. You’ll have to be the judge of that for your own stash.

Well my plan year ago was to try different stuff, so I started buy 5 packs off CigarBid, my research was to read about thing I want to try. Than researched price on different web-based sellers. That gave me a number for Maxium bid.

I found some great stuff inexpensive, or cheap. Got some dog Cigars I said never again. Now I have a stash of 900-1,000 today, but who is counting.

I rate the stuff I tried 0 - 10, anything that was a dog '5's' or under I will not buy again. "6's" and above I hunt for, but really don't need any more sticks. But I have another 50+ coming tomarrow.

Do not fall victim to some B & M Clerk say this is wonderful. My limit is two of the wonderfuls. Yes some wonderful work out, some were $15.00 dogs.

Cigar are like wine as if you find a $3.00 bottle you love, buy more. If you go to a winery tasting room, buy what taste good to you not their $35.00/bottle that taste like crap to you.

Honestly you are luck to be asking this simple question in 2018, as they are so many good Cigar available today. Many are inexpensive, or what I call price point Cigars.

I honestly for 15 year smoke only a Cigar that was a bundle Cigar I got out of Los Angeles, it was one of the first attempts at make a good Cigar in Hondouras that was from Cuban Seeds. Why did I smoke only one brand in a couple of mixes, and sizes.

Simple answer was it was something I like, it was reasonable, I could call the guy up on the phone, order 4 -6 bundles, he send the Cigars to me in a rural city I lived in, they arrived in to day, and he involved me, and I sent a check to pay my bill the next day. I was working 70 - 80 hours a week, and did not have time for much, it was confident for me. Plus they were great Cigars.

I am definitely of the belief that you should smoke everything and anything you can get your hands on. You never know when you'll find a gem that you like that you may have thought otherwise about or thought it wasn't in your wheelhouse or would fit your palate. I also look for reviews and top cigar lists that I feel will fit my palate in addition to good deals on cigars that I am interested in trying. And I also put a lot of stock in my local tobacconists (and some of my brothers') recommendations as we have very similar palates, so I never disregard any of his suggestions.

Also if you are interested I have an excel spreadsheet that I made up listing all the cigars I've tried and a simple 5 star review system, in addition to a wist list of cigars that I want to try. I am a more full bodied smoker though so if this doesn't fit your range it may not work out well for you.
