Arturo Fuente: don’t know what I don’t know

Hi brothers,
I tried to preface this posting with a meaningful message - based on my limited knowledge so far, I do not know one AF cigar that would make it to my personal top 10.
Having smoked the likes of Arturo Fuente OpusX Fuente Fuente, Magnum 52 and Extra Viejo, I still like the 858 Sungrown better.
What am I missing?
I was so looking forward to my box of Hemingways Maduros. Once again - Nothing...
What am I missing? Do I need to spend 10 times worth a 858 to get something notably better or is my palate so under developed that I shouldn’t bother for another few years?
By the way, I fully appreciate Avos, Montecistos NC and CC, Tatuajes, and Padrons 1964 and 1926.

I enjoy the opus and the Hemingway. But the 858 sungrown is one of my favorites as well. I found I liked the opus selections more after smoking more and getting better at tasting different flavors. The Hemingway short story has always been a go to cigar for me. Smoke what you like, doesn't matter if cheap... hell that's good for your wallet.

The 858 Sungrown is the only one aside from their Anejo's that I truly enjoyed. Had my first Opus xXx and was not impressed. Decent stick but nothing amazing. Just not for me. Gonna test out the Opus Oscuro's and see if they are better but haven't found any yet.

Everyone's taste is different and for me, Fuente cigars taste the way a good cigar should taste. Especially when they have a few years of age.

IMO, there is a lot of hype in cigars. In the end they taste like a cigar.

I love the Rosado,, cannot find them online B&M only, which I can appreciate They have that creamy, cedar, nutty flavor that I just don't find in other Fuentes.

I will take a Rosado over an Opus any day...... I my have to grab an 858 to try again, it's been awhile. BTW if you are in a B&M that have a black bar on their boxes. (for reference)

The AF brand usually is one of the primary cigars that most hobbyists are attracted to because they are an easy flavorful smoke that introduces people to the hobby. A lot of people stick with them because there is a great variety from mild to full and Opus tends to be the premium cigar as well as the Anejo in this line up. Is it a hit with everybody....of course not and the typical responses from a lot is the pricing and I agree that the sticker is out of control because there are places that will sell them at MSRP...$12- $18 and my favorite is the Chateau Reserve for $17.31....Perfecxion X for $16.19...Perfecxion #4 for $12.53.

Another reason for not liking the Opus...personal tastes. Not everybody is going to worship a particular cigar and that's to be understood. As many cigars/brands that are out there nobody should suffer a cigar they don't want or like....there are tons that I enjoy and that's what makes this hobby so great...something for everyone.

Different strokes for different folks. No big deal.
I usually have a few AF cigars in the cooler. I think the Chateau line are good every day cigars and reasonably priced. I enjoy the AF sun grown and anejo lines as well, but I'm a big fan of the Don Carlos.

Smoke what you like brother. I’ve smoked quite a few cigars based on raving reviews and have been let down many times. Sometimes you get a nice surprise, sometimes not.

One of my favorites is Arturo Fuente is the Don Carlos. One of the first boxes that I purchased. But I have often found someone else's favorites I don't really like. So with that in mind find what YOU like and go there. There are too many different cigars available to smoke what you don't like. I still haven't found the perfect cigar!

If you can fall in love with either a $5 cigar or a $15 cigar may I suggest you fall in love with the $5 cigar. I also like the AF 8-5-8

858 is good for the price. I’m underwhelmed by most of the AF line to be honest. Not to say they don’t have some good cigars, but I always seem to run into construction issues too often and they always look like a blind person glued the band on. I personally think they skate by in reputation a little bit too much at this point.

With the explosion of new high quality brands on the market construction issues at their price point has me usually looking elsewhere when spending my cigar money.

Fuentes are something I'll reach for in a B&M more often than not, as I'm not always up on the NC stuff, and I know that I'll be content with something from the Hemingway or Don Carlos line. If I've heard some positive things about other cigars I'll try them, or maybe grab an Illusione or something from LFD. The Fuentes aren't necessarily outstanding, but they're a safe bet for a decent smoke for me.

Las Calaveras 2016 was just heroin inside of them....La Creme melts in your mouth like ice on a summer day...Don Francisco is a boutique brand that's been around for quite awhile and I smoke the Robustos like people eat Lays Potato chips. Judging from what I've seen you smoke in past threads/posts.....I think you'd really like the Quesada Espana Corona...about as close to CC's you can get and a price point that can make you an addict after a box. Just trying to help ya out...#addict

Most of the fuente stuff is just decent for me. The don carlos personal reserve is prolly my fave from them rnow and god of fire was also pretty tasty. I’ve only had the last few opus x releases but I find them to be overpriced and pretty mediocre.
