It's legal and I have given it some thought. But I'm an old guy and probably don't have many years left to hunt. I know they make some awesome crossbows which is why I haven't even gone to look at them, because I know I would probably buy one if I did.
Did some looking since I wasn’t familiar with that model. Looks like it was a Walmart exclusive. Specs say 303fps as best as I can make out from the pic I found. Should be a decent beginner bow. I shoot bear bows, on my second one now. Have gotten lower end previous year models at good prices and both have put plenty of deer on the ground. Second one not as much but more because of life getting in the way. I don’t see the need to spend $1k on a flagship bow for a weekend warrior like myself.
I never heard of it either but I did see “big store” exclusive pop up. My buddy said same as you as a decent beginner bow. I’m going to get a quiver, arrows, release and a block this weekend and start shooting if I have the time. I have a big enough yard too so it’ll help.
I assume it came with a rest, most likely a whisker biscuit, and a sight. I have an extra quiver if interested, an octane hostage pro rest, whisker biscuit rest and an older trophy ride 5 pin sight. Just PM if your interested in anything.

I’ve shot bear bows my whole life. I’ve had several variations of the Whitetails, a pronghorn hunter, a truth II, & am currently shooting an attitude due to a shoulder injury & needing a lighter draw weight. Even their lower end bows are good quality & will more than get the job done. I just can’t justify paying the price for a Mathews or something. Especially since I put down the bow AS SOON as black powder season opens. Then put down the smoke pole as soon a rifle season opens!!!
I was told from another random bowhunter I met in a store, that the bear pledge won’t have enough draw weight to put a deer down. Right now it’s set at 50lbs. He said I’d need to get more weight behind it to drop one.
Well that’s complete bullshit. It’s all about shot placement. When we were cranking mine down we stopped at 52lbs. I wanted it low for my shoulder. I’ve taken two deer with it so far with no issues. Now granted, I won’t shoot at anything past 40 yards. A buddy of mine has a daughter who has harvested several & her bow is at 45lbs. Now if you’re gonna be shooting out past 40 yards, you might want a stronger draw weight.
Ok, well glad I put it out there then. I can’t even hit the damn target bag I purchased. Here’s proof. The damn arrow hit the ground though as I freaked out (and almost cried) in fear that the arrow landed in a neighbors yard.
I was eyeballing the Montec G5’s? A buddy said they’re awesome. And he uses them for deer. Eventually I’ll upgrade for a better bow and broadheads. Right now just field points. I want to hunt so bad but I need to practice. So I’m hoping next year I can try....
Can’t argue with science. It’s true that they take energy to open. But, I use Swhackers & haven’t had an issue.
Go to your local archery shop. Have um crank the limbs all the way down & see where it’s at. Then adjust out from there to a comfortable weight for you. Personally, I worry a lot more about shot placement than draw weight.
They checked it all out and starting me at 50lbs. As per their recommendation. I’m worried about my banged up rotator cuff. Time will tell on that though. I accidentally like an idiot picked the bow up and made the costly mistake of dry firing. But they said the strings were shot anyway and needed to be replaced. Whoever had the bow before me I guess didn’t take proper care of it?
Just cringed a little!!! Yes definitely take them up on the class if they’re offering it. That would be great for someone just starting out. Your wife getting into it would be cool even if she didn’t hunt. Just to have someone to get outside in the yard & shoot with would be good.
Ohhh, I cringed. Screamed the F word at the top of my lungs, then cried a little. And got an earful from the wife LOL. I’ll NEVER make that idiotic mistake EVER again.
Bow fishing one time the line got caught up on the reel when I shot. Sent the arrow flying back at me, slingshot effect. Gotta be careful brother. Shit happens quick!!!
Haven't dropped one with a montac g5 myself, but I have two friends that have, and having seen then in person they are fucking mean and razor sharp. The guy at the pro shop said 50 pounds would put bambi down, but I want to try and get a little more weight adjusted when I become proficient in my aim and actually hit something.
