Some dudes approach middle age with an ill-advised Corvette or an affair with a younger woman. Others jump off a proverbial cliff into a river of existential terror...trying to fight the inexorable current of time while gasping for meaning in a life seemingly geared toward grinding down the very essence of who they are. Potato po-tah-to. :ROFLMAO:
My brother is 39. He did what he was told: finished school, got a wicked good job, got married, bought a home, and is raising kids. He sold me his Subaru dirt cheap just to get rid of it so he could buy a Shelby. I guess he is the first mentioned midlife crisis type xD

I'm a bit shy of a milestone in my life and am filled with a lot of "what ifs", past and future. You might have already reached a part of your destiny, but it can only be seen once it's passed. Time is precious. Don't spend time thinking about what was. Think about the potential of an even better "what will be".

Hell yeah. I'll drink to that. I've learned that looking to the past is only good if you are fondly reminiscing, or referencing a lesson learned. But if you're looking back with regrets or "what ifs"...you're right...that's a slippery and unproductive road.

I'm guilty of this. Now after talking to you about it, I'm really hoping that guy calls me. "What if...?"

I think "what if?" when it pertains to events that may still materialize is perfectly acceptable! Falls under the "hopeful optimism" umbrella and as long as it doesn't otherwise pause or adversely affect your existing plans/dreams, and not done to excess...it's OK in my book, healthy even.
