Eh, I hear you, but not really. Cuba goes out and buys the stuff from places that have bought it from US companies and who don't have to answer to the US Government. So long as the companies doing the reselling to Cuba don't advertise it and it doesn't become public, the US companies aren't going to ask a bunch of questions and the US Gov't can do exactly zilch about it.

That is business, I am sure the US companies have no problems using a middle man to get their stuff into the cuban markets..

In the islands here, there are many small, private air strips, all within a few minutes by air of Vancouver & Victoria. Rumor has it. . .:glassesgr . . .that many people landing at those airstrips do a lot of shopping in Vancouver and Victoria B&M's, then bring back boxes en masse. Customs calls you on the radio and asks if you have anything to declare. Of course, the pilot says no and they go on their way to the appropriate private air strip, nobody the wiser. . .:scratchhe If an inspection is ordered, a quick touch-and-go at your private air strip solves the problem before heading to the beach. . . Life truly is different for the rich. . .

Agreed, with above. Actually in a way it's a good thing, US companies are selling more products abroad. Yet still not supporting Communist countries. Now admittingly I'm not a political guy, but that just seems to make sense to me.

Hmm yeah except for China... I think we do a bit more business with them than we ever could with a little tiny island.

I don't want to get too political, but it is hard to claim it has nothing to do with Communism. Don't forget when the embargo started. The biggest threat to out society was communism (still might be), but Kennedy started the embargo for that reason and went into Veitnam for fight against the spread of communism. I know there is more to it, plus the amount to pain and death people like Castro/Che g. have done to their people is really sad.

Listen--The U.S. dosn't have an embargo against Cuba *BECAUSE* they are Communist. If it's about Communism, then why didn't we establish an embargo against them in 1952 when Batista--the Cuban dictator before Castro--was supported by the Communists and the USSR? If it's about Communism, why didn't we establish an embargo against communist China? Or communist Laos? Or communist Vietnam? And why would we allow Communist parties to exist in eastern European countries like Moldova or Souteh American countries like Venezuela?

No, the embargo isn't about the political belief system of Communism.

It's all about the THREAT the Fidel Castro and his regime poses to the United States.

If Castro would have been Socialist instead of Communist, the embargo would still likely have been established. Or if Cuba were further away from us (like DPRK, or Venezuela) then maybe it wouldn't have been an issue in the first place.

But make no mistake; we DID NOT establish the embargo because of their Communist political system. We established the embargo because of Castro's military threat.

His military power and the communistic approach go hand in hand, without one he would not have the other.. We would have been in more trouble if we would have killed him and not Che back in the day...

So true, our relations went really south when Castro and his minions nationalized American holdings on the island. If the Bay of Pigs invasion had been a success and Castro had been taken out, I don't believe we'd have the embargo today.

Well if Che would not have been killed.. either way I think our hands are dirty
Yeah. We're dirty.

Cuba was really just Cold War fodder for Russia and Castro & Co were willing accomplices. There's more to the story that we know and I'm sure our grandkids will read about it someday.
