Okay it got too dark before I started taking pictures so that'll have to wait until tomorrow, but the frame work is down, I jackhammered through the old pancake footers (that weren't working) and spent a lot of time working on my PhD. That's Post hole Digger for the un-edumacated.

Jackhammer rental $60
Bottle of Advil for lower back $6
Taking jackhammer back to the rental store for good. Priceless

Tomorrow's episode: Fun with Nail Guns

If there was an actual forum titled "Wild Hair Projects" this would definitely be its poster child. My front porch had pier footings that were poured on fill dirt. So naturally it has settled. The first time this happened I jacked the entire porch up 1 1/2 inches and put some blocking under the posts. Unfortunately, this was like putting a bandaid on internal bleeding. So today I decided to go whole hog and fix this unit once and for all. I've got post to replace, a roof to raise, a floor to take out, footers to dig, concrete to pour, floor to frame, decking to install, columns to make and install, railings to fabricate and install, but I put my foot down when it comes to painting.

So far, I've just made a big mess and spent the equivalent to a box of esplendidos, but I'm having fun.

Wish me luck.
Good luck Dub, and be careful.

Come on Randy, you got skills. You are a wiz with an expresso machine ... hell on wheels with a golf cart + clubs ... and almost legendary with a Maker's Mark bottle.

No progress yesterday due to rain. No progress today due to training class. No progress tomorrow due to more training and then tequila with cigars. Maybe Saturday. This is how these projects take forever.

Outlook for Saturday: Progress slowed due to tequila. Dub begins to repair the front door he put the sledge hammer through.

the one thing I dont see in your project is a block of time for a trip to the emergency room. everyone knows that when someone does a project like this there is always a trip to the emergency room. Seldge dropped on toe, hammer hitting a thumb, 6x6 falls on head.... something
