Simpler? I don't know about that. Mind bending. Yep. I don't remember much of the late sixties.

They forgot to include "no civil rights unless you're white," higher death rate from disease at a younger age, shorter life spans, a higher percentage of homes without basic plumbing and electricity, and . . .

No computers.

Not true. "Computers" have been around since WW2. In the 60's, most were huge ... larger than trucks in most cases. I remember going to work with my dad on the weekends and helping him feed in punch cards on their IBM system so they could run inventory, sales and production programs. Their system was in a 30 x 30 foot cooled office room.

PCs however, did not start appearing until after the appearance of microprocessors in the mid 1970's.

I'd been thinking of this even before I saw the post because my son got a similar "good old days" thing from my m-i-l last week. Not everything is "better" today but not everything is "worse" either. For my son, I've missed his being able to have the independence that I had by 9 or 10, being able to ride my bike to the store or to my friend's house at any time. I still question how much of the "increased dangers" to kids today are real and to what degree they're due to increased news reporting. Two "worse today" issues that I thought of were the AIDS epidemic and the increased divorce rate. Of course, they're somewhat related to the greater public acceptance of gays and the institution of no-fault divorce, which has enabled spouses to get out of abusive situations.

This could be the subject of a college class, or several.
