Who's from Salt Lake City? Or been there for vacation? I'm going to be out there sometime this summer and I'm looking for info. Of course, if I can get rid of the family for a few hours, anybody want to hook up for smokes!!!

I believe Tuffy is the guy to talk to? But I can't remember. I'm sure we've got at least one or two brothers in SLC.

Tuffy lives there. I am from there and was just there this past weekend. What kind of info do you need?

What is the purpose of your trip? Are you going to be here on business, for a vacation, etc??? Are you going to have a lot of free time?

Lagoon is a local amusement park, it's definitely not the best, but it's fun to go to every 5 to 10 years. You can always go up the mountains, it's beautiful up there in the summer and you are only 20 minutes away from them if you are in Salt Lake. You can visit some of the Olympics sites (the ski jump is cool).

As long as I'm in town, I'm game for grabbing a smoke with you.

Do they still serve beer that must contain no more than 3.2% alcohol?
Unfortunately yes. I don't feel too bad knowing we aren't the only state with 3.2% beer, but I do smuggle in the good stuff from the surrounding states whenever I get the chance.

I've always wondered how they came upon that number :dunno:

I also remember that Colorado also did this (not sure now, I was there in 1996 ), but only on Sundays. You had to buy your beer Saturday, or any other day than Sunday :bottle:

There is a county in Utah that won't allow alcohol purchases on Sunday. I live in Salt Lake County where it's perfectly legal to stock up on our 3.2 beer on Sundays.

We definitely have some crazy ass liquor laws. All of our hard liquor and wine has to be purchased in liquor stores that are ran and controlled by the state. The liquor stores are closed on Sundays and major holidays, and they do sale beer with higher alcohol volume than 3.2%.

A law recently passed last week that bans "alco-pops" from store shelves. For those who like Mike's hard lemonade, or the schmirnoff flavored drinks, they now have to purchase them at the liquor store.

The alco-pops thing doesn't bother me and the governor threatened a veto of it if he didn't get something he wanted added in. Thanks to the governor, mixed drinks in bars now get 1.5 shots of liquor instead of 1 shot that they previously had.

First, hopefully we can hook up for a smoke!

Second, my wife will have some business, but the kids and I are along for the ride, so we'll have plenty of free time. We'll be there sometime this summer and i'm not sure for how many days yet, I'm just getting some info. Thanks for the help!

The most boring city I have ever been to and I have spent quite a bit of time there.....I lived just North for a year. Drinks are metered, so if you drink anything on the rocks it's a joke....great people, just a boring place! Beautiful places to see South....National Parks, etc.

In another lifetime I was a long haul trucker. The truck stops in Utah used to sell T-Shirts that said: "Eat, Drink & Be Merry For Tomorrow You May Be In Utah". I still laugh when I think about that. Even coffee was hard to come by in those days, depending upon where you stopped.

Kevin, if you like man-made wonders, the Kennecott Mine at Bingham Canyon is about 30 miles from SLC. It is impressive. I used to haul steel rails up to the mine site.

I never understood some of the crazy alcohol laws in other states. In ca we can't buy between 2 am and 6 am. Other than that, it's open season. Hell I've been buying beer since I was 17 at the sandwich deli on the corner. Some stranger vouched for me once and from then on they knew me and "Knew" i was over 21.
