In an effort to broaden my libation palate I have started to explore the wonderful world of tequila. But, I am a babe in the woods. I know about the basics: blanco, oro, resposasdo, anejo, and extra anejo. And I know the most popular brands, Jose C, Patron, etc. But just as BOTL has expanded my knowledge of cigars exponentially, I am looking for some education, and opinions from the brothers here. For what it is worth I like a full bodied cigar, and JD on the rocks so I will probably lean towards a fine tequila with full flavor and a little bite.

Any suggestions?

I like me some El Jimador. Has got to be one of my favorites. BTW Jose C is crap, but it does the trick.

HC7 - Cuban Rum, but you may also want to look at Ron Z 23 year old if you're gonna look at rum, or Zaya or even Appleton Estate "Extra". But I digress, this is a tequila post, not rum.

Like the Padron, expecialy the silver. Try them at different temps, they change quite a bit. I like frozen silver with a full body smoke, or room temp gold over ice and let it melt out a bit with a med-full smoke.

At the end of my drinking career I was heavy in to tequilla. Stick with 100% agave - ONLY! Here are my old pals in order ($17-$50 range)

Chinaco Reposado (Mothers milk)

Siete Luguas Reposado and Silver (This was Patron before it was Patron! Then Patron moved to huge mass production facitlity - SL WAY better in my opinion)

El Tesoro Anejo and Silver

Corzo Reposado

Don Eduardo Anejo

Cazadores Silver and Reposado

Inexpensive 100% agave for margaritas - Pueblo Viejo and Cuervo Traditional!

Mi dos centavos...

I agree with vorr64. Sauza Hornitos is my go-to tequila. Unfortunately, I can't speak with much experience on the high-end stuff.
