I recently had the opportunity to purchase some high end tubed cigars at a great price. Usually if I buy a tubed cigar I smoke it pretty much right away but I plan on storing these for a while. I'm not quite sure how I should store these. Should I leave them in the sealed tube or take them out.

I always open the bottom of the tube and throw them in the humi, that way they are the humidity I like to smoke at (65%). I would not trust that they are sealed good enough to leave them out unhumidified, so I would suggest either opening the bottom or taking them out of the tubes and putting them in the humidor, but leaving them sealed and in the humidor should be fine also.

I have heard of sticks that were overly wet when they were packaged. After two years in the humi, left unopened, were covered in mold. I would take the cap off the tube, and store in in the tube, cap off. In a humidor of course.

Take the cap off if they are not infused or flavored. I know those high end Gurkha HMRs are tubed and have that special cognac in them. Not sure what you have but if they're just plain ole tobacco with no added aromatic qualities then throw them in the humi open. If they have something added just keep them separate but open so you don't contaminate the others.

I have had tubed cigars that were unopened for over 20 years and they were magnificent. If you are storing your cigars properly, there is no reason to take the cap off. I tend to keep my cigars on the dry side, so cigars that have been shipped wet equalize over time. The tube is NOT airtight, so they will even out eventually.

You should make sure that you take the cap off a few days before you smoke them however.

Yeah, what Tubaman said. However, are the glass tubes or aluminum tubes or aluminum tubes lined with cedar? If they're lined with cedar, I'd take the caps off (or just loosen 'em) and leave 'em in the tubes. If they're not lined with cedar, I'd take 'em out of the tubes.

open the tube, take cigar out of tube, put cigar into cello, put cigar back into the tube, close the tube! yeah, that's the ticket!!

I finally got around to unpacking them and it looks like the choice was made for me. They are all in glass tubes but the pressure from the plane popped the top on a couple of them.

I think that I'm going to leave the ones that didn't pop as is and I'm going to leave the ones that did pop open. I figure that might be best idea.:scratchhe

Well, now you can do your own scientific study and decide for yourself if, over time, there is any significant difference between storing them as is or taking them out of the tube to store. That's the fun part, smoking them and tasting if there is a difference!!
