Why use the term ISOM?

Why do some members feel the need to use "ISOM" instead of "Cuba" or "Cuban"? Is it just a habit picked up from other boards, or do people think that there is a practical reason for it?
It doesn't really bother me, and I do not want to ruffle any feathers, I am just curious.

Personal preference I guess.. I've heard some guys get thier panties in a bunch about it. I've always found it dumb because there is a long list of islands south of Miami. Some of which produce cigars. I feel, if you need to talk about Cuban cigars in public then keep it hypothetical, because of course none of us would ever break the law to get them or smoke them. If you do have them and want to trade or buy them then keep your conversations private.

Maybe you don't want to rank too well on a Google search for the phrase "cuban cigars"? Perhaps it creates unwanted attention - especially when there is nothing illegal going on?

The use of the phrase "ISOM" always seemed a little silly to me, but to each his own...

I would chock it up to slang like marijuana = pot. I'm sure there was a time when it was more discreet online so instead of mentioning the illicit you would call it something else.

I think it probably started with people wanting to be able to say cuban cigar in a way that seasoned people would know what they were talking about and others wouldn't know. But with Google, anybody who wants to know will figure it out.

We say ISOM because ISOM is not on the govt's flagged list of illegal words...kinda like checking out those certain books from the library tha tput you on the CIA and FBI watch list. Same principle here, you type the words "Cuban Cigar" and BAM!!! youre on the list. Lucky for me i've never done it. I kinda like to fly below the radar so i say ISOM.

i'm one of the guys who can not stand when i see somebody use ISOM, just say cuban or habanos... guys new to smoking "ISOM's" couldn't resist, use that acronym most, once there in the game for a minute the relize it's corny like brokeback said. :grin:

Nah....marijuana sounds lame, people actually say weed, reefer, dope, pot, etc. It's the reverse with ISOM :smokingme

Yep. I bet them Feds will never figure out that ISOM bit. :thinkidea I used it once on another board and received a note from the mod that it was insulting to the people of cuba. I stopped.
