Entire day, just thinking about how short life can be, and everyday should be a thanks for having this opportunity.
I wrote a post but deleted it, but it did reflect your sentiment.

It's weird how we see life in front of us all the time but we seem to be saved from witnessing death.

Its always tough, but you should know that there isn't much you can do at that point. But there is always a plan, and obviously it was his time to pass. I hope you can be okay with that. Smoke a great one in his honor.

Bloody hell! I was expecting...well, I don't know what; but not THIS once opening the thread. I don't know what to say, nor imaginee how ye feel right now; though I'll say this: Death is but the price one pays to live. Enjoy every day ye've got, mate.

I'm sorry to hear about this, Bro. My wife is a doctor and has to watch people die all the time...people that she has given her all to try to save. You never get used to it. Frankly, it's good that it messed you up a bit--it shows that your a kindhearted person.

I'll pray for you, man. And don't hesitate to keep talking about it with people, even a professional if possible (pastor, therapist, etc.)--many health insurance policies cover that sort of thing. It can be very helpful.

Sorry to hear about it. Not being a doctor or military I've never witnessed death and gald I haven't. Hope you're ok -- njstone had some good advice if it would halp you. Also I hope you were able to get ahold of his family.

Bummer. What a tough day. Sorry to hear that you were there to witness his death. (I had 3 friends that died, though, in a way i felt a little thankful that i didn't have to witness their death)
