the problem is time. online is another option, but once you start browsing turning sites, you'll see there is a lot of talent out there.

I have been trying for years to get Norfolk Pine from hawaii, but it's hard. I could make so many cool pieces from that, I usually get mine from Florida, much denser and darker in color
the translucent bowls take from start to finish between 4-6 weeks to make.
once turned to about 1/8 of an inch the are submersed in a danish oil mix 24 hours then pulled out and wet sanded, dried for 24 hours and after that submersed again. I repeat this process about 15-20 times so those bowls are submersed in the oil mix well over 400 hours until translucent.
but I also love carving bowls after they are turned.
I havent had time to turn much, but soon I will start again.
