We've got some big kids this year and I started lifting with them last week. I used to lift pretty regularly my first couple of years in college, so I know what it's like when you first get back into the swing of it...

It sucks as you get older, though. Did squats for the first time in at least 8 years. Every time I get off the couch I almost fall on my face. I gotta suffer through the next couple of weeks without lifting my arm or legs. This isn't gonna be fun. Lotsa water and lotsa Advil!!!

Three weeks. That's about how long it takes most people to get over the "green phase" to put it in cigar terms. But really, after 3 weeks of lifting you'll probably not feel sore anymore except when you really push it or hit up a new muscle.

Don't hesitate to use creatine, either. I've used it for years, and it helps with the soreness. It's accepted for use by most sports associations and you can get it anywhere, even Walmart.

And have fun! I'm actually just getting back into the swing of things myself after a year of very erratic workouts. I still have the baby underfoot, but am making it a priority to get the weights thrice weekly for a while.

28. I was sore for 3 days after my first day last Wed. I'm glad I had a game Friday and had an excuse for not doing the Friday lift with the kids.

Bananas are the way to go. The potassium does wonders for your body anyway. The thing most people forget is that water washes out the lactic acid. Alot of guys drink Gatorade/protein mix/fruit juices, but you always gotta remember to drink a bunch of water when you get back into it. With that, I gotta get a drink.
