Thinking about signing up for an online training course for a CSSGB as I figured it might help the job search. Anyone have any training in this or similar areas? Comments /advice?

Thanks.

My job uses it.... Um as a end user.... it is crap. the solutions never really work and just look good on paper.
Yes I do...

and it is kind off like Jake says.....GREAT!!!!! on paper, but the real life solutions never seemed to pan out. Kind of like Tony Robbins training, makes you feel good, but if you can't sell, then you can't sell. So as far as getting a job goes, it will be good line to have on you resume, but it's not going to change your life.

I'm the QS/ISO management representative for my company & we've found that companies that use Six Sigma, Kanban, Kiazan even most of the TS/ISO standards & management philosophies are typically more of a headache. There is some value in it if used properly, but it usually ends up having little return on the investment (money & time).

LOL I am glad I am not the only one who has learned to bend over and buy knee pads and a bottle of Ky to work on a daily basis... and that is on a good day.

It's been farily well stated, but just another vote, it's a software to measure performance and results. I'm a project manager and don't think it's a very good tool, but many companies do embrase it. Problem I see with it is it forces rigdity of practice and is time consuming to keep up. Good ideas have a general direction, but not a fixed course, this can set up such a rigid path it defeats the good part of the idea. Take "No child left behind" Good idea, but once they set it's KPI's it was doomed to "No child can get ahead"

I have a book on it if you want it. Become familiar with SOX and it will be a good thing for the resume.
Thanks for the offer Ray - I'll pass for now. I did finish some SOX projects through my (former) employer and I recently completed two semesters of general accounting to familiarize myself with GAAP, so I'm good there.

Just looking to fill out other areas of useful training to help compete against the growing masses of unemployed.

The wife went through the training for her last company. Interesting, probably useful, but only if a company "buys in" to the concept, which most are not good at doing.

Mitch, are we talking about the same thing? To the best of my knowledge, Six Sigma is not a software program. It is a TQM concept.

Yes I am wrong in that Six Sigma is not a software, but let me explain.

Six Sigma as a "method and concept" goes back to mid 1800's (had to look that up), but it came into it's own when Motorola embrased it during the 1980's and had great sucess with it in conjunction with IT programing and software that they developed. It grew from previous methods like TQM and Zero Defect into a system now service marked by Motorola, but Motorola also developed and used software that played a major role in it's sucess. Most if not almost all major companies that embrase Six Sigma today also use a software to implement the process like JMP, IBM Business Modeler, Minitab, and a bunch of others. I can't remember what software company purchased Motorola's software and now markets it under their own name, but one does. So Six Sigma is a concept from a guy that died a century and a half ago, a current bussiness process service marked by Moterola, but to many end users it is also a software.

Hope I don't sound like I'm talking in circles, I know Ted wasn't talking about taking a software class, I was talking about how useful I think the whole practice is.

It's just the latest corporate fad much like TQM and ISO 9000 before it. It may be well suited to manufacturing environments which produce tangible products, but companies are latching onto it to cover all types of processes for which it's not really relevant.

That said, I'm working on a yellow belt project simply because it means a $2000 bonus for me...
