Ok, so i respond via direct email to a job posting. The guy listed a phone number too, but his voicemail was full (go figure) so i emailed him. The email was pretty informal; direct and to the point, acknowledging that he must be over run with emails and phone calls.

He emails me back within 10 minutes with this...

If you had a 5 gallon bucket, a 3 gallon bucket & unlimited access to water, how would you measure exactly 4 gallons of water?

If you owned a can opener store that sold ONLY electric can openers & I came in asking for a manual crank can opener, what would you say to me?

Aside from the qualifications listed in your resume`, what would lead me to believe that you are the best candidate for the position?

I email him back in the same informal way he asked those questions and POOF!

he emails me back 5 minutes later wanting an interview tomorrow morning!!!

I haven't even sniffed a job in 3 months and then bango! i get an interview...immediately. I take that as they wanna fil this job immediately.

wish me luck!!!

Cool. I can't figure either one out.

Let's see, if you fill the 5-gallon bucket and then pour it into the 3-gal, you have two gallons left. But where do you put that while you measure the second two-gallon amount?

And how do they expect you to figure that out?? DAMN I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!!

fill the 5 gallon
dump the 5 into the 3 gallon leaving 2
empty the 3 gallon
put the 2 into the 3 gallon
fill the 5 gallon again
pour into the 3 gallon until full leaving exactly 4 gallons.

Or you can fill the three gallon dump it in the five and then fill the three again then dump it in the five leaving you with one gal in the three. Empty the five gallon and dump in the one gal from the three gallon bucket and fill the three again dumping it in the five....There's four gallons.

What way did you answer Gale? By the way good luck!

I'll help with Soundwaves.

5-3=2 left in the five gallon
Now the two gallons are in the 3 gallon bucket. So you fill the fiver again and pour one gallon into the three leaving four gallons left in the five gallon bucket. The three was just used to catch the one gallon from the five for measurement.

That makes sense

Good luck with the job.

Here are my answers:

1. If you have unlimited access to water, why worry yourself with four gallons!

2. Offer a great deal on an electric canopener at manual price.

3. Because I answered one and two without laughing in your face!

Your way actually wasts less water by one gal.
