I hate to disagree. One thing, when I said in america Imeant they teach it like that only in america, not that it wouldn't apply for ye elsewhere. That what ye mention is really one thousand millions when taught elsewhere.
That's not true, plus you said a billion has 12 zeros. That would be one trillion.

I work in a laboratory with scientists from all over the world, and one billion = one billion, everywhere. :D

No, when schooled in India, Russia, China, Germany.....I just asked, and they all looked at me like I was crazy.
Well, I know only of Latin America, Spain, Portugal and France (from people I've had this chat with) but I'm sure there are more places.

From wikipedia: In modern (short scale) English language usage, it is usually called a billion (although in many other languages and long scale usage, a billion means a million millions, or 1,000,000,000,000, instead of a thousand millions).
