HOO-AH ... McClurg.

Retired USAF (Navy time too), but currently serving at the United States Transportation Command as a civil servant. Joint command so I get all the grunt, jarhead, swabby, and flyboy fixes I need.

Best part of the job ... I still get to serve and mix with the warfighters, but don't have to deploy (still do some TDY's though).

To those of you wearing the uniform - thanks for continuing to serve and defend for those that have gone before you.

I don't want to irritate anybody, but I do not like the "thank you for your service". I signed up and I knew the ramifications. Maybe thats just me and my generation. Again, this is my opinion on my generation

If someone was drafted, I have a different opinion. I will not say "thank you for your service", but I will call older vets "sir" when I go to the VA. I receive all of my benefits from the VA and I am there at least 10 times per year. I see too many screwed up vets at the VA. I would rather be a friend rather than saying "thank you"

Just had to say that.

I'm joined the Navy in 99 and still active, I sorta understand where your coming from but you have some vet's that will say "thank you" for continuing to do what they've already done and risk their lives. I quickly remind them (since I haven't been on the front lines) that I should be thanking them seeing how I'm alive, free and had the choice weather I would join the military. Some countries I've lived in they don't have a choice it's a requirement to serve X amount of years. Granted it might not be all at once but knowing your being made to do something is never a good feeling.

i completely disagree. there is nothing wrong showing respect and grattitude for someone doing a good job, for someone doing a job that has the propensinty of the ultimate sacrifice. i don't know 99.5% of these people, so being their 'friend' is unrealistic. buying them a pitcher of beer when the opportunity presents itself and saying 'thanks,' 'thanks' for our continued freedom, 'thanks' for the unbelievable hell you've lived, is the least i can do.

i'm curioius, what generation do you speak of?
