Although announced early in the year at the Festival del Habano, the annual limited-edition cigars from Habanos, S.A. are never ready until the second half of the year. Right on cue, the Cubans confirmed the three Edicion Limitada entries for 2009 last week, noting that they will be shipped in the “second semester of the year.” The class of 2009:
Bolivar Petit Belicosos: 5 inches by 52 ring, offered in boxes of 25; this is the first time that a Bolivar brand has been offered in a Limitada.
H. Upmann Magnum: 48: 4 3/8 inches by 48 ring, completing the trio of “Magnum” sizes in this brand with the Magnum 46 and Magnum 50 introduced earlier; to be offered in slide-lid boxes of 25.
Romeo y Julieta Duke: (5 1/2 x 54) reported as a new size for Habanos and offered in boxes of 10.
All of the leaves used for Edicion Limitada cigars are required to have had two years of aging, creating a more subtle blend, but still in keeping with the well-known characteristics of each brand.
