I have been on 3 deployments myself and it makes your day just to get a letter in the mail. Try and keep my buddies stocked up on sticks but they keep converting more and more soldiers to the dark side of cigars! Hard to keep up with the demand! Gonna pack up at least a 100 ct humidor (dont need it anymore!!!) so I know they all have some good smokes for the holidays.

I keep the house a/c set at 74 degrees and the room I have my humi's stays around 70 -72 degrees so I'm good in the summer.

In the winter the temp may go from 67 to 72 (night to day). I just wonder if that's too much of a daily temperature swing that could hurt the cigars with splitting or wrappers coming loose. I have had some of those issues on some sticks but don't know if it's due to the temp swing or not. Any input would be appreciated.

I do absolutely nothing... its shocking yes but its true.
I'm not shocked. I think way too much emphasis is laid on temperature. I've seen humidors in subtropical climates with the door standing wide open and 80 degrees or more outside. Of course the RH is about 75%. I think Cuba's average RH is 78%. Cigars that we buy have been vacuumed and/or fumigated so beetles are only a concern for the careless. I always keep boxes closed within my humidor so that if there is a hatch it will be contained to only one box.
At the same time, If an ideal temperature can be maintained then great. That's not always so easy with a large cabinet or walk-in. One would have to air condition which in turn de-humidifies. So then you have to crank up the humidifier even more to maintain the all important RH. I haven't had a single problem and during the summer mine will climb to 80 during the hottest days and down in the 50's during winter months. Just watch the RH.

Well my vinotemp shipped today and hoping it will get here pretty quick. Also ordered some heartfelt beads (sponsor plug :nodlaugh:) so that I can get this thing up and rolling. Now I just need to round up some temporary storage trays or boxes until I can get drawers made. Thanks for all the help guys!!!

My understanding is those models such as this one which contain Freon, you don't want, you want to stay with the Thermo Electric versions

Again, I may be wrong here but thought thats what I remembered

Crap I hope not. I dont really know how that would matter though. The refrigerant is not inside the vinotemp. All of the r134 is contained in a sealed system and simply cools outside air or recirculated air.

My vinotemp arrived today! Only problem is that I wanted to put it in my walkin closet so it was out of sight out of mind for the old lady but the thing wont fit through the door! Now I have to find a good spot to put the thing.

You have greater temperature fluctuations with the freon kind. At least what I heard.

I am letting the refrigerant settle until tonight and I will get it plugged in and see what it does. My hygrometer has a temp guage that shows low and high temp for the day so I will be able to tell what kind of temp swing it has. I will keep you guys posted!
