the oversite is other cigar smokers. this site is extremely popular for the Cigar Family board.
while what you trade for or buy is yours, there is a different way to look at this. I will talk from personal experience.
some of you guys might remember when Fuente released a small batch of unreleased cigars to the Cigar Family board. The CF guys called them "13"s because there was 13 in a box. they were not released to stores, just to CF members, and very limited. might have been 100 boxes. anyway, by time the dust settled, the value of these cigars went as high as $100 for each cigar, so $1300 was possible for just 1 box that we paid $130 for.
I had managed to get 3 intact boxes plus some singles. I was a big Fuente collector back then, and had nice connections. I paid $130 a box from my CF friends. When I decided to sell my Fuente collection, I sold the "13" for $130 a box, exactly what I paid. I sold them to CF members.
My point of all this if we call each other "brothers" then we should not be profiting off each other. Myself, and some of my CF buddies could have made killings on hard to get, and unreleased fuente cigars. I am not bragging, just making a point. Because of the members of CF, I had multiple boxes of BTL's. I had about 12 boxes of original release Anejos that were worth a small fortune. all these came from CF connections. would it have been right of me to go sell these at some auction site? if i did, i would have been put on the list, and rightly so.
lets say you have some expensive, hard to get cigars. as a favor to a BOTL memeber, you sell him some hard to gets at what you paid which was below market price. now he sells them to somebody else at a profit. would I trade with him again? no way. would I out him publically? you bet your balls I would.
