Living in South Florida this talk of an embargo lift brings mixed feelings to me. For one I'd love for Cuban Cigars to be legal and readily available. On the other hand I have many Cuban friends who have had their lives ruined by the Cuban Government, and lifting the embargo puts money in Fidel and Raul's pockets.

just my 2 cents.
I've Cuban family by direct line, and I call that argument to be bullshite. Batista was no better (after all, there's a reason a revolution rose), yet since he answered to American interests, everything was swell. Also, Castro might be everything BUT a good president, yet I've been to Cuba and saying that they ALL want to leave or they ALL loathe what the place became is the biggest lie of all.

If one was to try blind tastings of various cigar, both NC and CC, then folks would actually see if they liked them because of the cigar itself, not it's origin. Of course, we can only talk of speculation and hypothetical in the US.

It would be nice, wouldn't it. BUt I do think it might increase the cost on all cigars, as well as create more litigation in the courts for some brands. Time will tell, but I agree, it won't happen anytime soon!
Plus, Cuba will become a brothel (MUCH worse than right now) and it appears as if the island would be cut in half to leave a canal for maritime commerce...which would only support the transition.

are Cubans that much better because they are not legal in the US? or is it they are actually superior cigars?
When the embargo is lifted ye can find out yerself!

I know they all don't want to leave...but I'd rather see my friends get the money they have earned, instead of it going directly to the Government.

agreed, I've tried them, but don't have an educated enough palette to tell the difference.

I say they're sometimes better, sometimes not. Depends on what ye feel like. Somewhat like Irish Whiskey or Scotch.
basically what you are saying is they are just like any cigar.

I just think they are so sought after is because its obtaining the unobtainable.

With 1380 brands worldwide of different origin tobacco, there is a cigar for each person. One that will fit well within your palate/taste preference. I have had great cigars and shite cigars! The fun is trying them to find out the new treasures of our passion.

It's much more than that. I don't have exact statistics about worldwide sales, but I know a few guys that live in Switzerland and England. The B and M's over there sell very few NC cigars. Very few people are even interested in NC's. There's got to be a reason for that.

As for my own personal experience, there is a noticeable difference in taste. The gap is a lot smaller between CC's and NC's, but there is still a gap in terms of flavor. There are too many CC's that can be had that cost less than NC's, and they are superior to me, so I know where I'm going to put my money.

What the heck, I might as well throw my .02 in here too. I've had some that were extremely good, others that weren't any better than a Philly Blunt. There is a different taste because it's from different soil. I've had NCs that were better than any CC I've had and I think that speaks volumes about the development of the NC brands.

When the embargo is lifted the prices of CCs will likely go up even higher because of the novelty factor, then stabilize probably at their current cost or a little higher. They don't have the production numbers that the others do from what I remember so it becomes a matter of supply vs. demand after the initial rush. Some people will buy the twenty dollar cigars and decide they aren't worth it, then wonder what all the fuss was about. Others will continue to buy like they have. Unless the price is substantially lower than it is right now, I probably won't buy any until the fuss is over and the prices stabilize.

I don't know why the price of NCs would go up though, it seems counter-productive.

I used to think that it wouldn't happen in my lifetime...now I'm not so sure. I believe that if the current administration secures a second term, then we'll see it lifted.

Yikes! If there is a second term I think the last thing I'd be worried about is cigars. There'll be a statue of Lenin in Washington by that time.:boxing:

Couldn't have said it better. Not everybody has the same tastes in all things, esp. with cigars. I always get a chuckle with people who tout one cigar as better than another esp. in regards to Cubans and NC's. I love both equally but would never say one is better than the other.:chat:
