Time will tell if there is a market for this or not. Padron and Fuente have been successful in selling very high-end cigars. In the end it is up to the individual. If you like something enough to pay the price the so be it. If you don't then don't buy it. The market will show how successful it will be.

This is not the first round like this...what about the RCs? It is expensive...but I will still get some to try. Just as I did with new Opus, Davidoff, and Padron. If it is good I will buy more...just like the others. Just my .02...

To all you guys comparing Pete's sticks to Padron 80th and 45th etc.. I have one question.. How many Padron's have you smoked that have had a draw problem, burn issue, or any other QC issue?

I know there's alot of love here for Pete. He's a great guy that makes some very good cigars, but let's be objective. Constructive criticism is not a bad thing.

Also to all you guys telling JxBr How things work on the boards he's been around alot longer than most of you. ;)
Jay, you know as well as I do that regardless of the manufacturer, any cigar at one time or another as going to have draw problems, burn issues and QC issues as a result of the "man-made" issues.

Had a Padron 44 Nat a few weeks ago that was a great cigar but did have burn issues and did take away from the experience.

Now on to the subject of this cigar I believe like others have said that Pete does need to venture into the super premium realm. If the price point is too high then you are not required to purchase it. I will most likely purchase a few singles for special occasions, and if I love the cigar then I would likely spend the cash to tuck a few more away for future "celebration gars".

I definitely agree with you Larry, but the Padrons seem to have really nipped that in the bud and kept it to a bare minimum. I can't remember a Padron that's had any QC problems. Alot of the guys I know and smoke with agree.

Can people say the same about Tatuaje? I know I used to think so. If you look at the construction issues that keep arising with the tubos coupled with the lacquer problem in the Drac's it doesn't look good. Now maybe it is overblown because of the close release of those 2 products and people are ignoring the "regular release" Tat's.

Also are these QC problem's Pete's fault? Not necessarily since it is not his factory. I've also had some seriously plugged Pepin's/ My Fathers lately. Make of that what you will.

I knew this would stimulate a lot of great conversation fRom both ends of the spectrum especially since this forum is so pro PJ.It amazes me that people are comparing Pete to the Padron and Fuente family. Both of those families have been making cigars from seed to smoke for many many years.

I have never had any problems with '64, '26, '80th, '45 or '44 Padrons thankfully and I have smoked many of several of these lines for quite some time. In regards to Pete's new Churchill I can understand him wanting to jump into the larger market and the only thing he needs to do is have this be a really good cigar for the price point like any other manufacturer who has lines of this nature. I will try it and just like the other high end smokes I have had, if I like it I will get more if not it's all part of the adventure.

I don't think I will be buying more than one of the 25 dollar la verite unless the first one blows me away!
If there is a cheaper size that I like, I will stick to those...

I think it's an easy comparison for quality and taste of product.

I really, really enjoy both Padron and many Fuentes. But in the last few years I usually reach for a Pepin product 9 out of 10 times on the day to day. Pepin is one of the most celebrated cigar men of Cuba, this guy is a master. Pete knows the flavors he wants, and the Garcia family know how to make it happen. Pro-Pete or not, its a great product line and for something so new in a world of tradition, it has taken everyone by storm.

It's interesting to see Tatuaje even being compared w/ the Padron's and the Fuente's. Pete Johnson is the name behind the product. If anything, you should be comparing the Garcia family, IMO. Pete isn't responsible for QC, they are not HIS factories, he is the genius behind the brand, not the engineer.

As far as Pete offering a $25 to the market goes, more power to him. Why not try to cover all price points? It's a business, who doesn't try to make what they can out of it? Especially if you're as passionate about cigars as Pete is... it's just a dream come true for him, and he's sulking in it, as are we since we get to enjoy his creations. More public attention you have the easier it is to mess up, no one is perfect. No one said you HAVE to buy the cigar for $25. It's competition, friendly competition, the cigar industry is like one big brotherhood.

This is just getting down right silly, enough that someone who is not "pro PJ" is closing this thread. My advice...

not to be a douche...but My Father (Pepin) is a family of rollers and tobacco farmers from generations of this trade out of cuba. Pete is a great idea man and blender...but all of the tobacco and rolling is Pepin. Just like Fuente and Padron. They are on the same playing field for my .02.
And once again...not trying to be a douche...tried to word it to not be one...but really knew anyway I said it, it would come out that way.
