shouldn't I..

Sigh.

Living in Hawaii (non-AC apartment), with summer approaching, I'm sure internal humi temps will seep 73+ during the day, soon. I've been getting by with cooler, rainy days so far and I'm sure I am immediately not in any danger.

A vinotemp is necessary long term though, yes? Even with freezing my smokes fridge to freezer to fridge 1/3/1 (each and every one). And running with 60-63 rh, right? Or is this doable for the next year?

It's a rhetorical question I suppose. I just thought I would ask anyway though.

Summary:

Can I get by without a wineador? I'm guessing the answer is yes, I can. But if I don't kill all the beetles or somehow larva get in, I lose and will have no one else to blame but myself.

Pretty much it? LMK, comments, insight appreciated broskis.

(I sure hope Costco, or local wine shops have some in stock. -- Shipping triples the cost of my purchases. Think for a 12 -- was small - shipping was at least 250..) -_-

keep an eye out on craigslist. even if you have to take a ferry to another island to get it, it would be cheaper than shipping one to the islands

If you are going to be going above 73 degrees in the house you are running the risk of those dread beetles. From what I understand standard home freezers do not get cold enough to kill the beetles completely.

I found myself in the dilemma of running a window unit AC 24-7 in the summer here to barely keep my humidors at 72 degrees. To me my investment in cigars was worthy of the investment in a Vinotemp. Last summer it was really nice not having to monitor the temperature every day and the break in the electrical bill not having to run a window unit basically paid for the Vino by the end of the summer. A constant stable environment is critical to storing cigars.

have you considered getting AC?

Yep, not much possibility, most in HI do not have it (not really needed). We did not when I lived there.

I went a couple of summers where my humi would get as warm as 78, I never had a betlle issue. I do have an Avanti again.

that's pretty pricey for a 16 bottle... you can probably have a 28 from target shipped for less!
