Wife wants me to smoke less because she says that I've started smoking too much.

Does it count if I just smoke less when she's around but smoke more when she's gone?

I think so.

yes that counts.

I smoke in the car while I'm driving, I smoke when she is gone, or at lunch. So if once or twice a week I decide to have one while she's home it seems like I'm only smoking a little bit.

I do the same. I only smoke at home when I am out in the yard doing yardwork or messing with the animals. All my other smoking I do away from home and away from the wife.

While she is not stupid and smells the smoke on me when I come home, she has no clue how many I smoke when I am 'out'.

What is "too much"?

Not trying to be an ass, but could you not say the same about many things she does "too much", you eat, you bitch, want less sex, shop, etc...

I would find out her reasoning behind her request. Does your "too much" take away time that you could be spending with her, or the kids (if you have any). I would get the real reason she feels you need to smoke less. It's a marriage and you have to work together.

Well my wife flat out just doesn't like it, but realizes that I enjoy it so I do it when I'm out with the guys or golfing or doing yard work. Of course when I do smoke I usually smoke 2-3 so I make up for it. So yes, smoking less around her is smoking less period .

I was floored not to long ago. One night after we got the boys to bed when I usually go out and smoke, I decided I would come on to bed, well my wife lovingly looks at me and says "Are you not going outside tonight?" and I thought she would be happy I decided not to go. Turns out she wanted me to go out. She said when I go out she gets to fall asleep before me and gets better sleep. So now I get to go out and have a smoke every night thanks to my snoring! I love my wife!!!

In reply to Plush it doesn't take away any time from her. She just gets hung up on the number of cigars in a week. If I smoke 2 cigars in a week she freaks. She is worried about the health consequences. And try as I might I can't get her to understand that the health effects of cigars are different than someone smoking a pack a day.

When I used to smoke cigars at home, my wife would constantly ask me, "are you done with that yet?" It totally took away from the fun and relaxation of having one of my favorite sticks. The breaking point was when I had to put out my first Tatuaje Noella about an inch into it. After that, I said 'screw it - no more cigars at home when the wife is around.' Since I travel for a living, the travel humidor is my friend and I always take at least 2-4 sticks with me on the road. The hardest thing for me now is finding the most quiet and relaxing spot around the hotels to light up a cigar.

To keep this on topic, only you can decide how many cigars is too much. I found out that when I take on new hobbies, I tend to go overboard at first, and then find my happy medium.

Regards,
Randy

My parents tend to ride me quite a bit on the subject of smoking to much. In my household my father is the main proprietor of this and seems concerned because he quit smoking for my sake in the months before I was born. I combat this by doing a review every time I smoke giving it at least some validity in their eyes (this is still only two to three times a week, I think most would agree this still isn't very much).

I was in a similar situation. I went from 4-5 a year to 4-5 a month now I'm at 4-6 a week,. The misses was starting to ask why so much? I explained to her the enjoyment and relaxation that I achieve when smoking a stick.. It's not an addiction that I must have a smoke like cigerattes.. Try to get to the root of the problem and address it so it does not linger. My sitution the compromise was I smoke twice doing the week on my deck and I can get out to drapers or shelly's once every 2 weeks and smoke until the end of time

I'm smoking less because I have found that I enjoy it more if I just smoke 1 in the evening after work. As far as the wife goes she has her own cigars and when she wants 1 we smoke together. Now when I am vacation, the weekend or off all bets are off...

I try my best to have at least one a week during work and one or two at home. I finally got three of my team members into cigars, so at least one of them is usually up for a cigar break.

I was pleasantly surprised last Friday when my wife texted me and said my oldest daughter and her bf were coming over for burgers... she said "If we start early, y'all will have time to smoke a cigar." I had gifted him a Herf-a-Dor and 10 sticks for Christmas, and he will only smoke 'em if he comes over and has one with me. Well, we grilled some great burgers and had dinner. I already had my laptop and speakers out on the patio. While listening to some Habana Hits on Pandora Radio, he and I sat outside, smoked our cigars and sipped on some German beer he brought over.

After they left, my wife says, "Hey Mr. Fokker - I think you like HIM; y'all talked for a long time out there!" I said, "Ehhh, he's a cool guy but, I was showing him the BOTL chat room, plus, I had a lancero - they take a bit longer to smoke."

I've actually decided to cut back a bit on my own. Smoking 2-3 per day is not how I envisioned myself when I started smoking cigars again. Health concerns and finances are on my mind more often these days. On the average 2 per week is where I'd like to be at.

I like the way you think :ccowboy:

Doesn't mean we're engaged or anything - it's just that UR a smart one.

Now for some of you wusses out there - :eyepoke:

Hiding from one's wife is no way to live - work it out - men need to be men - And So Do I! - for too long women and society has been making little girls of what used to be called men. Men are sensitive enough to stand up and have a conversation with the women who may or may not love them enough to be equal participants in what today passes for marriage. Sadly, many relationships are run by dominatrices who populate the American "home" with Casper Milquetoasts characters. Many of the probs there in the States stem from dropping testosterone levels. I understand the Girl Scouts is recruiting since their uniforms are now available in "men's" sizes. - Ha!

Smoking too much indeed :crackwhip - Men-of-the-World-Unite! - It may seem kinda sweet how they think they care about us - they just don't want to train another protector/provider for the fam - Ha! What other Manly pursuits do these - so-Called-Women - mediate for you? Give them control of your cigars and they'll be making you pee sitting down - Ha! You might as well bolt the dunny-seat down - :cbig: - Gotta Go Now, the Ol' Trouble an' Strife is looking for me - :togetherl

2 cigars in a week?

I'm up to 2-4 a day! At herfs and smokers I can get up to 6 (if I don't show up late  ).

My lady complained at first but she has let it go...

Heck she buys me cigars now whenever she travels or for holidays. For Christmas she got me a locker at my local B&M and filled it with 42 sticks; some were favorites and others were must tries.

She is just too good to me. :stretchgr

Oh and as for your question, yes it does count if you smoke less only when she's around.
